What is the best (and cheapest) way to ship coin rolls in Canada? I have some bubble mailers, and I was wondering if that would be the best way to ship them? The bubble mailers I have are 4" x 8" They look similar to these: http://www.checkoutstore.com/000-Ji...MAILER000600What do you think it would cost to ship something like this, in Canada?

Hi, CB, I just sold 60 rolls of Canada nickels (nickel) and shipped them in a box you get from the bank that cents, nickels, quarters come in I think the one I sent was a quarter box.
Cost if I remember was $30.00, weight was 22lbs or so.

Do you think I could ship single rolls for under $3? In Canada only?

Bubble mailers can be used, but a box would be better.

Yeah, but a box for a single roll seems like it could get expensive.

Canada Post makes it really difficult to send something bulky like that in an envelope of any kind. If they suspect that it's not a paper document or a CD or book or magazine they'll insist it's a parcel. Yet I can send small packets to the USA for under 2.67 with a commercial account. What a joke.
Edit: only helpful advice I have is to open the roll and ship the coins flat ( I put them in plastic coin strips stapled to a page).

Hello Canadian-Banknotes,
Unfortunately for us (Canadian Shippers) if you just put the roll in the bubble mailer it will not be able to be shipped via standard mail. Canada post uses the slot method. If the envelope does not fit through the slot it can not be shipped standard mail no matter if it is under the weight limit or not. A roll of nickels added with the thickness of a bubble mailer will not fit. Same goes for a roll of cents. They are both just to thick in a mailer. The only way to get it to ship standard is to take the coins out of the roll and bag them lose in the bubble mailer. Not really a problem if shipping average circulated coins but a pain if you are trying to ship Higher grade coins. A good option is to go to your local DollarRama and look in the craft section. You can get a pack of 80 small ziploc baggies (Aprox 1.5" x 2") and put each coin in its own mini bag. It will save the coins from dings and scratches without adding much weight at all to the package. I believe the package will also fit through the slot with this method. I have never used it on a full roll but I believe it still should fit.
If I'm shipping a smaller amount of coins with a bit of value I will usually ship them in a 2x2 which I then insert into a Sports card semi-rigid sleeve. I can get 2 2x2 in to each sleeve. I use this method for 1 or more coins per shipment. The Card protector protects the coins against the chance of any puncture of the envelope scratching or otherwise damaging the coin. The sleeves add very minimal weight to the package. Once I have the coins secure in the sleeves (tape the open end shut) I will tape the sleeves together. For multiple sleeves I will usually tape 4 together. Lay them down and tape them 2 sleeves wide and 2 sleeves long for a total of 4 attached together. Packing tapes works the best. Of course how many I tape together depends on the envelope size. They also stack nice when packaging multiples in this method.
I have never had a problem with any coins I ship that way and the buyers are usually happy with the extra security of the packaging.

Sounds like between the labor (on both ends) and the cost of getting the bags, it would be cheaper to send them in a box.

If the above is accurate, how are the 100s of Canadian sellers on ebay able to ship rolls for under 3 bucks? I mean, they're selling penny rolls for 2-3 bucks, with 2.99 shipping. There's no way they're taking a hit on the shipping cost with such low cost items.

.....was reading and saw biggfredd posting and was wondering what the heck was going on. Until the last post.... . check the date...duh. hahaha. This thread caught my eye since I'm looking to start selling by the roll too. Don't have scales and not overly familiar with Canada posts rates and policies so I was curious how to send 1, 2, 3, or 5 rolls as cheap as possible. Looking forward to some updated responses.

I will share the secret Penny rolls and dime rolls can ship in regular envelopes with little wrapping around them and still pass the height limits set by Canada Post. All other rolls need to be shipped as regular parcel. I haven't sent a penny roll for a while, but I'm sure it was under $2.10. I sent four rolls of pennies together and it came to about $5.60 I put them in a ziploc bags and padded the ends and completely taped the lettermail package. If you send anything parcel, use a bubble mailer and fold in half if only sending a couple rolls. I sent a roll of Loonies recently from Manitoba to Ontario for $11.35
