Could someone who has the Zoell books list the varieties found on the 1957 penny please. What have people found on this coin ?
As far as I am aware the only varieties for this coin are the hanging 7 and the double hanging 7.

I don't have all the books but here's what is listed in what I have : E81a spot on mid pt of truncation , FL81a die crack truncation to L to rim, d/c to N to rim, patch and spot below shoulder fold , Z81a doubling of queens forehead , R81b recut 57 , R81d re-entered 57, R81e re-ent. 1957 , R81g rocking re-ent. CA NDA , R81n re-cut maple leaves, R81q re-cut forehead and throat, R81s re-ent leg.(legend ?) :50 to :12 , shift to S-SW , R81u re-ent leg.: 15 to :38 shift to N-NE. The pics aren't that clear on these re-ent. and re-cuts but I'm guessing they're Machine Doubling and die doubling. Good Luck on your searching.

No problem, here's a pic. There is also a filled A - last A in CANADA -(P81c) and filled area right leaf (P81d) and a nipple on the right side edge of the truncation , just above the A in REGINA.

Hans Zoell wrote a series of Major and Minor Variety books for Canadian coins back in the 1960s. The Major Varieties were struck by dies that had things such as punch spacing differences, repunched characters or letters, doubled dies etc. that were present when the dies were created. The Minor Varieties were things caused by die wear/usage such as die cracks, die chips etc. He classified all these varieites using his own unique numbering systems. For any Canadian Coin variety collector, his books are a good grounding with photos of all his catalogued varieties.

Thank you. Would you know if they are they still available as reprints or are they out of print?

These books are long out of print.... every once in a while they are available at book sellers or on E-Bay.
