Hello! I have an interesting byzantine follis, but in very poor condition. Probably it is a rare coin of Nicephorus Basilacius, please, help me in identification. Best regards. Michal.

to the community. It's possible that it might be Niceephorus Basilacius Sear # 1890A. But without a the obverse it's difficult to confirm. The cross is not jewelled so it's not a class C folles.

Thank You! I'v looking for anonymous folles class C, folles of Trebizond, folles of Alexius I... but my coin is similar only to the coin of Nicephorus Basilacius. In the obverse is in my opinion the bust of Christ, but in very poor condition.

It's too bad the obverse is so worn.

The question is: were the other byzantine coins (others rulers) with the same reverse as the follis of Nicephorus Basilacius? ;-)

Look here one follis with the same reverse Alexius I Comnenus. 1081-1118. Æ Follis (23mm, 4.44 g, 5h). Thessalonica mint. IC-XC/NI-KA, cross standing on two steps, with globus terminals

While the cross looks simular, the rest of the reverse doesn't match.

The follis of Alexius I is with a non patriarchal cross with plant or flover "arbor vitae"="tree of life". The cross have the others tips, so the reverses are others.

to the community vladw2001, That reverse appears to be a very close match. The only difference I see is that on your coin the cross appears to be outlined and on the other it's not. That could be due to the wear on the first coin though. The is a 25 plus year difference between the two rulers, but the reverses are very similar. The only way to know for sure is from the obverse which is gone on the coin.
