I was just on the US Mint website and can not find a link to the $1 coin direct ship program. I also looked in the press feeds and can not find any annoucement that it has been eliminated. Does anyone know if it has been if fact eliminated?

I would not be surprised. The program was magnificent, therefore they had to kill it rather than do something that would fix its problems (which would have been trivial).

Here is what I can find. http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ntifier=8000For circulating $1 coins you want to spend or use in your business operations, we offer the Circulating $1 Coin Direct Ship Rolls. You can buy a quantity of 500 (10 rolls per box) $1 coins at face value. There will be a shipping and handling fee of $12.50 applied to each box ordered. Ken

I just visited the US Mint website for the first time in about three years and noticed that they changed the Dollar Coin Direct Shipment Program where they no longer accept credit cards and want those who order to download a directship form for their order... They also advise to check out their website for what dollar coins are available (currently they claim all past issues for this program are sold out and no longer available)... Order Form link is below... http://www.usmint.gov/downloads/dir...rderform.pdf*******www.usmint.gov/downloads/directship/orderform.pdf *(type in if the direct link does not respond)

Well the 2011 NA dollars (as well as all other earlier issues) are shown as sold out. The 2012's are not being made for circulation so I don't expect them to have direct ship for those. The general page for the direct ship information is missing. So apparently they have decided to discontinue the dollars for circulation until the supply on hand declines, and have also cut off this method for helping the supply to decline. I'd keep checking from time to time to see if they put any of the older rolls back on sale, but I wouldn't count on it. The US mint website that does give you the list of what is available is here (but at this time if you follow the links shown on the page they indicate they are sold out.) http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs...n=directShip

No surprize there....they lost a ton of money shipping those out with free shipping. And the savy public killed credit card companies with their scam too. Just like jbuck said....

I'm sure your local bank might still be willing to order some in quantity for you - if you don't care what you get. The $12.50 per box shipping I think is reasonable - considering they really took it on the nose with all that free overnight shipping before.

I am just wondering that sometime soon the U.S. Mint may decline to direct ship altogether, in favor of selling through a few selected (probably by tender) agencies, and save on some staffing costs involved with direct shipping.
The signs seem to be there.

The bank can't order them from the mint either, just the Federal Reserve so you will only get older ones and possibly a mix of circs and uncs. There wouldn't be a $12.50 per box fee for those. Probably the only way to get the 2012 NA dollars is going to be to buy roll sets from the mint at $38 per 25 coin roll. ($76 per set)

They are discontinuing a shipping method for a coin they are discontinuing to make. Is it that hard to grasp? It's kinda hard to ship something that doesn't exist.

Slight correction, they have not discontinued making the coins, just making them for circulation. They are still making them for sale to collectors at a premium.
