Doin the best with what I have for a camera. Working on getting my friend who's got the good stuff to get me some pics. I'll post those when I get them, but for now I like to see what ya'll think on the grade here.

Amida17, not sure if its been dipped, not sure if I can tell really. The pics aren't the best, so hopefully I'll get some better ones out here soon. The luster on this quarter is pretty attractive...shinny. I was actually grading a little lower than you and LincolnGuy I was going with upper XF grade maybe just before AU. Thanks for the opinions, it helps me learn.

I think it looks better than XF because of the details on the eagles chest feathers.

LincolnGuy, you make a great point, and I was wanting to go AU because of that and Washington's hair...most all the details are still visible there too. Where I was coming from was the coin has so many hits too it. How bag marks and hits affect the grade is still something I'm not completely clear on when grading.

AU-50. The coin looks like it may have been cleaned/dipped but that may just be in the pictures.
Generally for circulated coins hits don't really affect the grade all that much. If there are numerous and/or more severe marks, it may cause a downgrade or a details grade if it's bad enough. When it comes to mint state coins, marks are probably one of the most important factors in determining the grade.

It's always about the marks in grading Mint State coins, hits, ticks, scratches. etc. Luster comes into play when it breaks in areas to show wear making the coin AU, or on high end examples as to how much luster is present.

I think these pics give a better idea of the lustre on this coin and the eye appeal. Thoughts?
