I wouldn't have a problem with the dollar note being replaced by the dollar coin. It would be nicer to replace the content of the dollar note with polymer though.

Quote: reaplaced How do you REAPLACE something. Also, note the topic is ELIMETED and many of the members here possibly would like to do that to our one dollar bills, whatever that means.

The 1 dollar note has already been replaced by a dollar coin. The problem is, nobody's had the guts to tell the Federal Reserve they've got to stop making dollar bills. American politicians all seem to be worried that abolishing the dollar note will somehow get them all thrown out of office.
Oh, puh-leeze. All they have to do is tell the American people, "Here are your $1 coins. You don't have to like them, but you will have to learn to use them.". Then delete the reference to $1 notes from the Federal Reserve Act. Hey presto, no more dollar bills made. The $1 notes already in circulation would vanish within a few months. Within six months, everyone will be happily using the coins and no-one will remember there was any kind of controversy about them.

The dollar bill is annoying. I go down to the US for shopping trips (from Canada). All those one coloured notes are confusing. They fill the whole wallet up. I often go to the People's bank and exchange them for coins. Dollar coins or halves.

I like carrying dollar bills better than coins. Not as heavy in my pocket.
But wondering what a penny dollar is? You referring to the actual value of it vs before 1913?

Almost impossible to get people to use those baby dollar coins. Very few like them, use them, nor want them. Regardless of what they do they are just to close to a Quarter. Maybe if there was no such thing as a Quarter, those baby dollars would go over better. I just never see those baby dollars used anywhere. I could easily carry 20 to 30 or more single dollar bills but 20 or 30 of those baby dollars, not a chance.

I voted yes. We have had a dollar coin in Aus for nearly 3 decades and I recon they are great along with the 2 dollar coins. Nothing like a big handful of "Goldies" when you go away on a job to hit the coke machine with The bonus is that there are a heap of commemorative coins out there to collect as well. It's all Win Win

I want my paper dollar. I think our dollar coins are ugly and the size is way too small to reflect that they are worth 4 times our quarters.
SAP.........American people are very hard-headed. We are not using the $1 coin...that is the problem. You don't know what we might do if they do away with the paper dollar. I think our gov't has an idea and that is why they are treading softly. We are a crazy bunch over here. We don't roll over and play dead for nobody!

I think that the US pollies should grow a backbone instead of snivelling about just to keep in office. The 1 cent coin only has any value to collectors and the 1 dollar note has to be replaced all the time because of wear, adding more expenses to the taxpayers . A 1 dollar coin will last for years. All they have to do is get the size right . Why whinge that the new dollar coin is close in size the the quarter when the 5 cent coin is bigger than the 10 cent coin

Yes, if the powers that be would force it, we would start using the dollar coin , but "All they have to do is get the size right" is not right. There neds to be something more distinctive, like a hole in the middle or make it it octagonal to be distinctive.
My wife has twice now received dollar coins in change as quarters from cashiers who thought they were quarters

The dollar bill needs to go away! As far as the size issue vs quarters, that was a big problem with the SBA, but with the current dollar coins being a gold color it is not a very big issue. One of the large issues is that the public currently thinks that the dollar coins are special and will not spend them. They will gladly accept them, but will then take them home and save them. In the past 4 years I have spent over 20,000 dollar coins and have NEVER received one in change!

I agree, Piffin. If the dollar coins were something that we would "like" and find "aesthetically pleasing", then they would have a fighting chance of staying around. I find our dollar coins ugly and too small.
I love the idea of a "big" multi-sided coin or a "big" coin with a center hole. I think people would welcome those and use them. Everyone would want to have some at all times in the pocket or purse and would show off by buying things with them.
Popularity of the coin says a lot as to whether it will last or just be a passing phase. Lord knows we have a few of those "temporary" coins that were a waste of time to begin with.

another classic example of politics getting in the way of a common sense decision that would help (albeit only by a tiny amount) to balance the budget and get away from this runaway deficit spending train we are on...
