I dont know what attribution to give this coin it has a laureate, draped, cuirassed bust right, seen from the back Moushmov is only laureate and draped bust only and the legend break on reverse is unlisted PROVINCI-A DACIA. What would be the right attribution for this coin? 29mm 13.3gms Edited by jessvc1 01/27/2012 3:29 pm

Try Dacia Moushmov 1 or 2. That looks about right to me

I guess the closest would be Moushmov 1 but the legend break on the reverse doesn't match.

I would say Dacia Moushmov 2 looks closer

AMNG 16 lists PROVINCI-A D-ACIA and PROV-INCI-A DACIA I cannot find one in AMNG (Pick) or Martin with this reverse break of PROVINCI-A DACIA. ref. AMNG 16; Martin 2.67.7 var (rev. breaks)

I don't have access to Moushmov, where are you getting the numbers? The closest I can find is Pick 16, Pick Martin 2.67.7. This would rely on the reverse legend having a second break between the 'D' and 'A' in DACIA - PROVINCI-A D-ACIA. Its possible but not perfect. Nice coin BTW

That is definitely a nice coin. I assume that's a Roman Provincial.

Also does anyone know if these were produced at Apulum or Potaissa or both or somewhere else (Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa)

Quote: Moushmov 1 and 2 are on wildwinds under-The Ancient Coinage of Dacia Ah - I didn't know, I'll look for them now, does Moushmov even bother with legend breaks?

I think your coin is M2 - she is holding both of the standards (rather than 1) and is standing.
Sadly the picture on wildwinds does not seem to match the description (surprise-surprise!) which means either the picture is wrong or the description or both or I'm not using it correctly.

I am not sure I guess that I was trying to attribute this coin like roman imperials. I am still pretty much a beginner with dacia coins.

I have an original pdf of the 1912 book in Bulgarian but never got around to trying to understand it. Quote: NOTE: Some coins below describe Dacia as holding two standards. In actual fact, she is holding only one, (in her left hand). The other standard is standing beside her to left. Noticed this at the top of the Wildwinds page so maybe the pictures are OK but its still quite confusing. I'll have a look at my pdf!
