Hi after a lot of time I'm glad to show you this denarius,the famous caesar's denarius with elephant,3.63g. Cesar in Carthaginian language means elephant. The elephant destroys a carnynx, the typical Celtic war horn, a symbol representative of a whole people. In short, as if to say: I have conquered the Gauls. On the other side the religious symbols of the pontifex maximus, a position he held a few years ago. In short, a business card: the military merits on the one hand, the other institutional credentials. For me it was a dream have a coin of Caesar....the coin come from a valuable shop and a serious seller.what do you think?it has a nice grey patina for me....   and here we can see the carnyx:   Edited by giano

Nice one. many of these are misstruck and have flan flaws so this is a reasonable example and something to be glad to add to your collection.

Very nice example. It's a very desirable coin. I have one in my collection but it's broken and I've had it so long my records don't indicate what I paid. Yours is much better than mine for sure  |

Yes it is an expensive coin,I had been waiting years to find one in this condition, to try to buy it.
Moreover it is very counterfeit and I had also to find a vendor that would give all the assurances and certifications required.
Is something that I always do anyway, even for less expensive coins but in this case even more.
however, always less expensive than coins with the effigy of Caesar ....
Some books talk about the elephant that tramples a dragon, but I found the idea of gallic horn that seems most appropriate.
What do you think dragon or horn?
I would add, even if it seems silly, that I kept it in bed with me in the pocket of my pajamas for a few nights, I was so happy, and every time I touched to hear if it was true that it was with me ... ..

I always thought the elephant was trampling a serpent (snake). "The denarius of Julius Caesar shows a snake in probably the nearest way to which we think of them today; deadly, and perhaps evil. This snake is being trampled by an elephant, and is often interpreted as representing Pompeius Magnus, Caesar's enemy, being crushed."
But your idea of war horn is as good as the serpent idea. I'm not sure if there are any records to indicate one way or the other. Once again, you have a beautiful coin.

thanks again...however I'm mad I know....it was the first time I went to bed with a coin....a nice experience...I found the idea of the war horn on an interesting book I had never read of that before so I put it here because I think it's an interesting idea an not so popular,so you can read of it.:-)
