Hey guys, I used to sell world coins, and common wheat pennies on ebay until I realized the final value fees that I accumulated which easily exceeded my profits, not to include paypal fees, shipping fees and all of that. I'm doing this as a college student to help pay out my debt and needs an alternative place to sell other than ebay. The question of the day is "what online marketplaces/shops do you shop at for coins"? Thanks in advance! - Michael

I use ebay most of the time, although I've learned to use caution after a couple of bad experiences. I only purchase now from top-rated sellers, and I've put together a personal list of dealers that I've come to trust through the quality of the service I've received.

Coin shows are my first choice. I feel a need to see a coin in hand before buying it. I have been tempted by many of the coins offered on CCF. It is only a matter of time before I eventually buy something here.

Coin shows, coin shops and auction houses where I can see what I am buying and others can see what I am selling. I buy sometimes on ebay, but I limit it to mint rolls and unopened mint sets and I only buy from sellers who have excellent ratings. I sell on ebay but only about 5% of my selling is on ebay. Through ebay and coin shows, I have met many buyers who appreciate the quality of my coins and my service. After their initial purchases, we usually deal with each other directly through personal email and Paypal. I can past the savings on to the buyers and they are very happy. Happy buyers are repeat buyers. This is true for me as a buyer and as a seller.

It would benefit the CCF to buy from it's members, no eBay/Paypal fees, usually good prices, and the flexibility of dealing one-on-one with another collector versus a internet dealer. I do purchase the bigger majority from ebay though, wider variety, but it can be chancy. Look for someone with an excellent feedback rating and more importantly a return policy. I would be very skeptical of someone who has a "no returns policy". I have not been to a coin show in forever...I'm looking for one (relatively) close-by.

I usually buy from ebay, since most dealers don't carry what I'm interested in. Plus on ebay, you have a greater selection with competition. I have 2-3 coin shows a year that are about 35 miles from me, so it isn't too far, but the dealers generally have common items that I'm not interested in. They won't bring their better stuff with them for security reasons and plus it is a lot of stuff to bring, if not many people are interested in them.

I have a hard time getting to coin shows, and haven't found many good local shops, so I'm kinda stuck with shopping online. I've sent back a lot of coins I've gotten off of ebay, but I've gotten some good stuff too. It's hard to get a good deal though. I've also shopped at Heritage and Teletrade. I have gotten a few coins from CCF members also.

I have a local coin shop and a Antique store that I buy from. My Antique store will sell me 90% coins at very near spot, cash no tax. (except for Morgan and Peace dollars $2.00 premium over spot. My collector coins I go to my local coin shop, unless the Antique store happens to have a good deal.

No dealers, coin shows within 100 miles, so it's ebay.

I almost always buy mine from my local shop, and a really good one at that.

I mainly been buying from ebay. I have been rethinking about buying from ebay though. It might be me but it seems that you don't get the deals on ebay like you use to get. Most prices start out higher than what book price are and then you have to add in shipping. I been seeing where people are overpricing shipping and handling to make up profit. ebay does not get percentage of shipping and handling costs. I would buy from CCF but I do not have enough posts yet, but I will as soon as I do. I didn't care for the local coin shops. Because I wasn't spending hundreds of dollars at once so they didn't want to take time to help. There is a brand new guy that buys and sells gold and coins. I went in and started talking with him and he sells me silver coins a melt price. I have been getting my Mercury dimes from him. Since he is new he has a limited stock of coins. I would love to find a good online coin shop to deal with or someone directly would be cool too. If you you know of someone could you please let me know. Thanks for the help.

From what I see on ebay, I could never, ever buy from there. Of course I have about 3 coin shows withing 15 miles of me, each one once a Month, all year long. Also, have several flea markets withing a few miles and coin dealers there too. Just could never buy a coin from a on line dealer since can not see the real coin, hand look at the actual coin, pay for all that shipping and postage and stuff. At a coin show I can haggle the price, not try to out bid some make believe possibly non-existant person. At a coin show you get to know dealers, meet other collectors, usually pay nothing to get in, no parking fees, no postage, no insurances, no lost in mail stories, can sit and study a coin and haggle the prices down.
