I am thinking of buying the Dansco Statehood Quarter album and the extra page for the US Territories. If I were to pick up a box of quarters, what are my odds of coming close to completing the album with AU grade coins or higher?

From one box? You will probably get a nice little bunch of nice album worthy coins, but I doubt you fill an entire album with au coins. Give it a few weeks or months. You will probably get the State Quarters. Territories, maybe not. I'm on the east coast and still have not found a Denver guam or vi quarter.

I think you should give it a try. I would definitely be interested it learning how well you do with one box. While I do hope it is possible, I suspect it will take more than one box.

Good luck, I think you might be able to get all the states in one box, but the territories will be challenging.

I think you should give it a try before you buy the album and if you do find enough, then buy the album to store them. That way if you lose interest, you didn't waste money buying the album. And who knows, you might find something interesting, like a silver one.

Quote: I think you should give it a try before you buy the album and if you do find enough, then buy the album to store them. Not a bad idea. The only thing you lose by waiting on the album purchase is the ability to immediately organize the set and watch it grow. For the record, I have not bought my America the Beautiful Quarters album yet, but I currently have the 2010 and 2011 quarters patiently awaiting it.

Laugh, I think my problem is not if I am going to buy the album, but when I am going to buy the album. Since I got back into the hobby last year I have decided to slowly convert all of my old Whitman folders into Dansco albums. Since the Statehood Quarters are new I really haven't collected them yet. I think I will buy the 1932-1998 Washington album and the Statehood Quarters album with the page for US territories and see how much I can complete from one box. I don't usually keep detailed notes when roll searching but I will make an exception in this case as there seems to be some interest in the results. I will try to stop at my bank tomorrow and request a box of quarters. They will probably have to order them. I will try to post again in a few weeks with the results.

I stopped at my bank today. They hadn't placed their weekly order for coins yet so I was able to request my box of quarters for next week Thursday. I also placed my order today for my Dansco albums so everything should be set for a fun weekend. No football? No NASCAR? No problem!

Well, it took me over a week to sort and tabulate my box of quarters as real life got in the way. So, finally, here are my results.

I first sorted every quarter by year. I then went back and broke down each year into the mint marks. Then I looked at each coin and kept the best two of each set. I did this because I wanted to fill the new Dansco Washington and Statehood Quarters books that I purchased and I also wanted to upgrade my old Whitman album with some nicer coins. This was an exhausting process, but I am happy I spent the time as I should not have to go back again and upgrade 90% of these coins in the future. I found it interesting that I only ended up missing 4 coins from the entire 1965-2008 P and D series. A couple of the single and double coins that I did acquire will not be acceptable for my books, but for the most part I was able to complete my set in one box. I enjoyed this enough where I might do it again in a few months, but I will only sort the statehood and newer quarters the next time around and I do not plan on keeping detailed records.

Best way to collect those quarters is the way your doing it. Continue buying them in bulk and eventually you'll have them all or close to that. It is rather silly for people to run out and buy those from dealers as soon as they come out since eventually all will pop up in change or close to that. And don't forget that Whitman also makes Albums for those. Same with Littleton, Intercept shield, etc. If not interested in an expensive Album, first check around for the best prices on any brand. Unless you are one of those Dansco people.

The last box I did I ran accross all but 2 of the territories, and a few of the ATB. Not sure on the states, but have been tempted to do what you are doing. I would think the first few years would be difficult to find in AU. jbuck, let me suggest an album. We have 5 of these and I LOVE them. The Lighthouse at the bottom of the page. http://www.jpscorner.com/national-p...nerstone.htm
