Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on these two. I know they aren't rare or anything, but I just started looking through some coins last week and came across these. As you can see the 1979 D has a filled in D and the 1999 has the bottom portion of the "B" in LIBERTY filled in. Any information would be greatly appreciated! I've also looked around on the net a bit but, couldn't really find anything.

Thanks!

Thanks for your definition. Most of the time they ask: "What is this?" and you have to try to find what they are looking at.

These are both the same type of problem. The post on the die that forms the inside device has broken off the die. The coins struck with this die will continue to show this area for the rest of it's life. No extra premium for this as it is common. But on some Varieties it can be used as a marker for that die that the variety is on. Just because a coin has that marker though doesn't guarantee that it is that variety. Or just because you have that variety and the missing post if there doesn't make that not that variety. (You coin may have been created before that event of the post broke off. So it is just a normal event for a die. No premium. Sorry. Hope this helps?

Very common on the 1979-D and not so common on the 1999.
