This year again, I find multiple scratches on my 50 Cent 1/25 ounce gold coin. The crevasses spread across 45 degrees! Even the heavy frost isn't enough to hide the defects. Last year's Gold Coin:

Thats pretty sad :(. Can you exchange it or something? Not sure of the RCM's return policy.

Looks like I'm gonna have to go to my dealer to get one instead of ordering one online.

Actually, this may sound bizarre but I will keep them. These defects are virtually impossible to see with the naked eye, and interesting since some collectors have also discovered similar scratches on theirs.
I wonder how they are introduced.

I wonder if they are being picked up with a tool a few times... off the press, to inspection, to packaging? Don't know the process.
I don't think it is a die problem but could be, but the marks aren't consistently in the same location and I think there is only the one set on 15,000 coins.

Maybe these marks also exist on other (larger) coins but we never paid attention?

^^^I do not own many NCLT's so... it is hard for me to comment. I will check people's pictures for them on NCLT's as they get posted. The 1/25 series shows it seems. You don't often see the actual NCLT coins, usually the just the image the RCM provides which is not of an actual coin.

Didn't see that on this coin in my av. I'll check the little coins later.

With the 2011 1/25th that came it had the same defect although in a different place. As well the areas affected had flattened frosting making the area affected quite noticeable. Just sent it back and will not be getting a replacement.

@realpenny Thanks for the . @canadian_coins That 2006 might have been missed if I were looking at the coin since its so close to the rim. It's not so unsightly that it deters from the coin.

C_C: Check the level of frosting in the rims... 2006 = better frost = lines present. 2011, 2012 = poor frosting = lines present. The lines have seemed to always been there. The frosting effect might not be working/adhering because of the lines, thus a little more noticeable in later years when the frosting went to poor (whichever year that started)? OR The RCM noticed the lines and tried to cover them up with heavy/poor frosting and it didn't go as planned! Like the old lady who swallowed the fly... then the spider...
