I bought a large lot of world coins at an auction today with the view of sorting them for silver. Amongst them I found 6 silver coins from the states, 2 of which were liberty halves which I will list in the classic US grading and the other 4 were 2 each of quarters and dimes. Whilst I am pretty certain they have little to no numismatic value I thought I would post them to make sure.

I have no experience with grading US coins what so ever. Should I condemn these to the rubbish silver pile or are they worthy of a 2x2?

From what I find and IMHO The 53D Washington is probably only worth melt, but the 46 Washington is somewhere between a VG8 and an F12 which according to NumisMedia Fair Market Value it's value is slightly higher than melt. (http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/price...esgd.shtml). I love the Washington quarters :). I think the same can be said for the dimes. The 59 may just be worth melt, and the 47 is probably worth a little more. Bot of those dimes though have a great strike and really good details, they both would probably grade in the VF range.

Amazing that those are in Australia. Did they have a Roosevelt President there too? And your Australian Washington looks just like ours. Might be related.
I too am a lousy grader but I'd say for the Dimes about VF-20. Both Quarters are from F-12 to about -15. All really nice coins considering where they are and how often you possibly see them. And when you think about it, you found more than people here are finding.

Before the silver run-up, you couldn't get fifty cents for the dimes or $1 for the quarters.

That is pretty amazing that silver US coins are in a world lot. If you paid a typical price for the world coins (like $10 per pound), you made out very well!
