Here's one of my experience for hunting silver. I use a magnet and run it through rolls. You would probably pull out some US coins and some silver coins if lucky.

Buying rolled change from customers at a store is better than rolls from the bank in my experience.

When I have the time and budget, I buy rolls of nickels to get all the pure nickels one. The last time I did it I've got 86 pre-1982 nickels out of 10 rolls (400 coins) for a little bit more than 20%. I think I will now chase after rolls at stores for more chance of having old coins.

Yeah. I keep an eye on whatever that don't stick to a magnet. They are usually US coins but sometimes they are silver.

By the way, what made you think that my first name is Peter?

Y...clearly thats peters son. hehe. Just like everyone calls me sam..Im not sam.. I'm Sams Nate. HeHe. If you dont work at a store...what stores can the average guy go to and buy rolls from them that people have brought in? Do you just walk into the local timmies and ask them if they have any rolled coins and pick them up or something?

I am a US roll searcher and find quite a few Canadian coins here. I keep all the old ones as I have for the last 50 or so years and the newer ones I wrap back up and keep them for my once a year Canadian trip in September. Oldest I've found is a large cent. Found a great looking George V 1933 nickel this week.

i keep all the canadian I find - because the bank won't take it. The pre 82 nickels get set aside, and some of the older pennies. The rest gets thrown in a bag to be brought to canada some day.

I used to keep all the US coins from the rolls I hunted, but at some point, I got bored of them. I kept the pre 1982 ones and uncirculated ones.

3 from 5 boxes is very good odds. Only question I have is do you also search the non magnetic coins as well? If not...you could be missing the rarest and most valuable 2006 variety...the 2006P non magnetic. Not to mention all the other great coins that are not magnetic from the various years. Just curious.

I love to search boxes of cents here in Canada but I have recently switched my attention to nickels. Nickels are a bit easier to search and there are quite a few different coins of value and rarity to search for. Alternating what I search is the best way to avoid getting burned out while waiting for the snow to melt and the ground to thaw in my area.

All I looked for was 2006P magnetic. I never knew that the 2006 magnetic cent without P was a good one. Due to the aforementioned reason, when I was doing searching, I abandoned all my 2006 magnetic cents.

Bought my first box of nickels today. Unfortunately the box was all 2000+. The coins were all paper wrapped and had been picked through. If you're a little careful with the paper wraps you can get the coins out and back in without wrecking them. Now to just bring them all back and try again.
