Wow ... that Grant is nearing basal state ... Thanks for the link SD.

This coin is common in average circulated grade ... and unusual but not difficult to find in very well worn condition (F/VF) ... but rarely do examples such as this surface on the market.

Wondering what all of you see that lead the seller to believe the coin is 'damaged'? I do not see the damage.

BTW ... another great coin design by the grand dame of the classic silver series ... Laura Gardin Fraser.

One of the many joys of collecting circulated coins of this set is that details appear in these coins that are hidden in their MS counterparts ... in this case Ms. Fraser monogram on the obverse at the truncation of Grant bust stands out ... but you need to look hard to find it on my MS66 example.

Saved to my Watch List ... might be a nice downgrade.

That Grant must have had a huge strike before someone carried it around in their pocket for 50 years.

Here are 3 coins that were graded MS67 by PCGS. The monogram is very strong in two coins and almost not there in the other. You would think that it would be somewhat dependent on strike? But it seems that the coin with the most detail on the collar (bottom) is the strongest in both areas yet the top photo lacks collar detail but has a strong monogram. Maybe different dies? This seems a mystery.

On the one I have, at first glance in hand I thought it was a bagmark until I looked under mag and saw that it was indeed the monogram.

seemingly weaker strike, no monogram yet die polish
Low-Grade-Grant...
a strong strike with hardly a monogram
Low-Grade-Grant...

seemingly stong strike and very detailed monogram, also tons of die polish
Low-Grade-Grant...

Here is my example... very strong collar detail. strong strike, die polish but definitely not the strongest monogram.

I sent the seller a question regarding the 'damages' noted in the listing.

Have purchased from them before on E-Pray ... lets see what they say.

Interesting comparisons on Laura Gardin Fraser monogram dgleich.

I find such detailed evaluations of this great series fascinating ... and appreciate you taking the time to share those examples.

Here is the monogram on my well struck PCGS MS66/CAC Grant ... not very sharp .. and as I mentioned in my original reply above ... stands out much better on that G4 coin than on mine!

Low-Grade-Grant...

Thanks. Interesting for sure. Your example looks almost if it has prooflike fields? Did you certify it or buy it slabbed?

Yes, I have bought a few coins from that seller as well. A Peace and a couple of Washingtons.

It looks like the coin may be bent or has been harshly cleaned on the lower portion of the coin.
