The seminal work which most token collectors still quote from is the Arthur Andrews catalogue, "Australasian Tokens and Coins", first published in 1923 and with several reprints since then, most recently in paperback by the Mitchell Library in 2010. Amazon listing. The 21st edition Renniks had a more comprehensive section on the tokens, and rumour has it the next edition will as well.
The 1800s Krause catalogue list them as well; a chap from my coin club is the contributor to Krause for the token data. He's also been writing his own token book for a few decades now, but I don't know how close he is to completing it.
