A friend of mine asked me to submit pictures of his 1942 S Jefferson nickel RPM. When I checked the S mintmark and found nothing, I thought of checking the date and found this. Is this a doubling of the 2? I checked varietyvista, didn't find anything, but then again I didn't check any other points on this coin. What do you think? Or is a 2 supposed to look like this and I've never seen anything this clear before? My friend has it graded as MS65.

I just checked an example I have in my collection. It has the same mark on the 2. It must be part of the design for that year?
