is there a way to tell if a coin has been purposely rainbow toned?

if its on ebay I would check to see how many other rainbows they have for sale. one guy has dozens.

once it's seperated from the rest of the heard I don't know... other than the fakes I've see piled up have some really really strong colors.

Devil's advocate: what if you put a coin in a holder that is not archival, and eventually over the years, becomes toned...is THAT intentional!
I know what you mean though...some guy brewing up some kind of toning solution, then going to town, right?

There's one guy on ebay that sells plenty of high end graded ms65 coins.

Most of them are toned in a 'funny' way.

A few of them look naturally toned, but most of them are suspect.

Still, they are in ICCS holders.
