Hello all,
Newbie here.
What is this 'thermotron sealed strips' that I see about the coins from the local coin dealers when buying the 1oz silver coins such as the Grizzles?
I searched the forum but came up empty on an explanation.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the clear explanation! So does it worth more if it has the RCM logo like that in the first ebay listing?

Ah, forgot to welcome you to the forum Canadian bullion silver coins are worth a few dollars more to collectors when sealed in RCM's thermotron strips (more than that if you find a sealed 2009 SML for samsnate ) If you are selling back to a dealer though, silver is silver.

HAHAHAHA Ya thats right...If they exist. Still have no idea. Can't seem to find that answer anywhere and the mint isn't helping me out much. I thought another member of CCF had said that he finally got enough coins to bring to the mint and have them sealed. I asked him to verify what he meant...but no response. Again, for most dates, having them in RCM packaging will get you a few extra bucks. When you get key dates such as 1997 sealed you ca get another $10-$15. Availability is key thought! People pay more to get what they cant find. So you aren't going to get as much for say a 1997 SML if there are 15 others up for auction as if there was only 1 or better..NONE. Though sometimes if you want to add to a set you need to throw the price guide aside and do what you like. My set to me is worth more than the money I paid for them and I have had to pay for that coin that I really wanted but LOVE that I have it. But that's a bullion collectors stand. If you are just doing investment silver is silver and buy as CHEAP as possible. Bulk buys of 10oz or more will usually get to a better price per coin. Seems that you can buy for say $3 average over spot per coin and sell on ebay for about $8 over spot. But remember they have fees that usually after all is said and dont will cost you about $2.50 for every $40 made. CHEERS! P.S. Watch for that 2009 SML for me! :-)

Thanks for the info samsnate. Was debating whether or not I should keep collecting the wildlife series in strips. I can get them for about another 1.50 premium on top of regular wildlife coins. Might as well finish off the series.
One thing I did notice was that my friend of mine got sealed wolves with milkspots. So I guess its still hit and miss with the thermotron in terms of quality of the coins.

Thats right... milk spots can still happen. Most of the time there is a micro crack in the mylar which allows air or moisture to get in. I have the wildlife series all in mylar as well but I also try and protect them even more. There are 4x6 acid free hard cases that you can find that have a small pad inside them so when you place your coins in them it stops them from moving around. I also find that the mylar cut out of a sheet at its largest would need a 3x3 space to fit them. I place 2 coins of the set in 1 case. The case also joins with a tounge and groove seam which helps seal it once more. Sometime down the road once I have the set complete to my liking I will have it vacume sealed as well. 3 times sealed to try and prevent anything from happening. But that is for personal collection and a really nice way to try and preserve and display at the same time. I think bullion sets are still wonderful regardless of the mass number of people on this forum that still referr to bullion as JUST BULLION and not a collectors item. To each his/her own. Personally I dont care about old coins and think that they are a waste of time but I respect the history and rarity of them and also respect that they are what they enjoy collecting. So good on them. Sorry about any spelling mistakes...not my strong point. :-)

That would be your call. It is just what I have done to protect, preserve and display in a manner that I enjoy...But that's just me. You need to decide what you like and how far you want to go with your collection. Like people around here say "Silver is silver" If it's just silver to you dont go through with paying premiums and extras. I started just stacking bullion...then I decided that I would like to have a set...then I decided that I would like a set mint sealed and then I decided that I wanted to keep and protect and display which led me to spending a bit more each time. But in the end, this set is for ME regardless of what others think about what I do. You need to just do what makes you happy and enjoy each step in your journey to accomplish whatever it is you want. CHEERS!

I'm getting air tite cases just for coins I display. Most likely will display one of each silver bullion from around the world, the wildlife series, and pandas.
Everything else will either be in tubes or whatever packaging they came in.
