I am doing some coin id'ing for my dad and need some help. This is struck in copper which I understand was struck in 1861 by Alfred Robinson of Hartford, Connecticut using dies made by the Boston diesinker Joseph Merriam. The lettering and date are in larger letters that the original and are in a different style. According to Kenney twenty-five examples were struck in copper and twenty-five in brass.

So my question is this coin has an R stamped on the nova side. I don't know if it stands for replica, reproduction or for Robinson. I does have Brasher on it where the reproductions dont have it.

any help is welcome.

Mario,

A picture would be very helpful. Lacking a picture, all of the rare coins I've seen with an 'R' stamp denotes "Replica".

The pic is blurry, yet I do believe that this is a 1960's era Replica. I have seen similar pieces, like a Jackson Hard Times token with the stamped R.

No it is not real. The real coin is gold and weights about an oz. This is a modern pre 1973 fake. Value? Maybe a dollar.
