Hello,
I am starting to really get into collecting coins, and I believe it is safe to say that I truly enjoy the hunt. Lately, I have been wanting to go to banks and see if they have any coin rolls (Mainly pennys), but have no idea as to which banks would carry these.
Any ideas on which banks to go to, and how many rolls to buy?
Thanks!

It depends on where you are - it's best to go ask the banks. Some will special order them for you if they don't have a lot in stock. Usually you'll have to have an account.
You'll probably want to start with doing a box at a time. For cents that's $25 worth. For nickels, dimes, quarters or half dollars that's $100, $250, $500 or $500 respectively.
Also, remember the first rule of roll hunting: Do not, under any circumstances, take coins back to the bank you got them from after you've searched them. Take them to a different bank. If you take them back to the same bank they will hate you and start charging everyone for coins or won't let people order them and you'll ruin everything for everyone.
Rule 2: OBEY THE FIRST RULE. Do not dump where you eat. This is very important.
Good luck!

All banks will have some rolls of pennies. Most will probably have a box worth (50 rolls). If you are wanting more than one box at a time you may have to order them. Banks' policies on ordering boxes of coins for customers are quite varied - the only way to find out is to ask.

Hey Captain.
I recently quit smoking and haven't had a cigarette in over two weeks. I'm also taking Chantix and its made me fairly depressed. So I gotta tell ya, reading your post just made me laugh for the first time in days, so thank you!

One method usually not stated is to find a Brinks or other bank type money carrier and follow them. When they get to a dark, secluded area, rob them of all their coins. However, as already noted do not take those coins back to a place where those trucks were headed. Why not just walk into all the banks in your area and yell does anyone have bulk quantities of coins? Should get some results that way also. So much depends on where you live. You would just have to ask at each bank. All are different in different areas.

As Captain stated, don't start with more than one box, I usually start with the customer wrapped rolls a teller has and always carry an empty box in if I am purchasing less than a box, even just $5 in pennies is hard to carry without a box! I don't hit a bank more than once a week, you don't want to become an annoyance to them. I usually try to hit them on Monday through Wednesday when they are not so busy. Once you get a box from a bank, feel how the teller reacts to you doing that. I have had multiple tellers curiously question why I want a box of pennies (not a common request where I live apparently). I usually let them know I am a coin collector. Once you know the tellers well, you can figure out who is the coin purchaser for the bank and have them order you pennies if needed. I have two banks that order me 3 boxes each a week and are happy to do so.
If they seem very hesitant or if you ask for a box and they state that "they have boxes for business customers" and don't seem to want to part with them to you, that is usually a sign of a bank that would be a good dump bank.

These are great quotes on getting rolls! Awesome tips! Probably good enough to put in a sticky.
