My interest in Jefferson War Nickels began when I started roll searching for them nearly three years ago. I would pull these well circulated 'greasy grey' coins on occasion from my bank rolls and wondered ... what did they look like when new? I purchased an MS66 example from the Bay several years ago ... and was amazed at the visual treat these coins are in gem condition. That humble beginning ... and the beauty of these coins in gem MS ... inspired my quest to assemble a complete 11-coin basic set of PCGS certified Jefferson War Nickels ... a set that is now finally complete after 2-1/2 years of searching. This is a fun mini-set to put together ... only 11 coins ... but somewhat challenging as some coins are tough to find in high MS condition. I've put together a slide show below ... my only regret is that my poor photography skills do not come close to giving these gems their proper visual credit. Even the 'toned' coins in the set are amazing in hand ... bright silver surfaces with amazing cartwheel luster. Hoping you take the time to view this 1 minute show: http://s750.photobucket.com/albums/...ew=slideshowNow searching for a 1942-P Type II Proof PR66 or better and a 1943/2 MS65FS or better example .... then I will consider my War Nickel set complete at 13 coins. Enjoy David

Congratulations David, a really nice looking set. My Jefferson nickle set all (except the 1950 d) came from circulation and like my Lincoln cents they have become forgotten. I should resume the search for the coins past 1961.

Nickelsearcher-that is one beautiful collection. I am working on a set of at least ms66. I have them all except the 42P, 42S, 44P and 45P (pics in the latest acquisition thread). I hope I eventually have a set as fine as yours

Very nice slide show and coins. That 44-S really pops, and the full steps add a lot to the visual appeal of the coins.

Not sure if I like the slide show idea better than than the coins. Those coins look fantastic but I like that slide show idea much more than some of the other presentations on coins.

Awesome! I'm not into nickels, but I've always liked the high grade War Nickels. Thanks for sharing, now I've got to start building my own set!
