Getting back into the hobby after a 20 year abscense and I have a couple of "newbie" question. Sorry.

What are the better coin magazines/publications/online sources out there now for keeping up with the current happenings in the Coin World? I remember a weekly or biweekly newspaper I used to get way back when.

Where to go to get accurate pricing information, particularly on the modern coin series?

Is there a place to go to get information on what are considerd the "key dates" in the modern coin series?

Thanks.

Lots of places for all that info. One is Numismedia. Also, you could go to the PCGS web site. Then of course there is the Coin World Magazine. For lots of valuable info, purchase a Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Latest version is coming out in April.
However, once you get settled in as to what your doing with coin collecting, for the best and latest info, just ask here. Can't get faster, more accurate, up to date info from any other place. However, if I answer your questions, just skip to the next reply for safety. Humor is necessity of life.

I like NumisMedia; it is a good retail price guide. I will also check the completed listings on ebay for a second opinion.

Just ask about a particular series and those who collect that series will offer the answers. If you are asking about Modern US coins, you will want to post your question on the Modern US Coins forum.

back Gary. I was away over 40 yrs. Joined the forum in October and am amazed at the wealth of knowledge and cooperation from the members. Time spent here is time well spent. I can't add anything to the advice carl & jbuck have already offered.

I collect Canadian coins so I couldn't answer your question for U.S. coinage. However, to C.C.F.

the coin dealer newsletter (known as the Grey sheet) is one publication that you can get bi-weekly or monthly(I think)and as for a price guide it is about as accurate as you will find in printed form. ebay past auctions is great to find what a particular item is selling for at any particular time also. The RedBook is great for information but not that great for pricing, same goes with PCGS price guide and even numismedia, they are all good to start but further investigation is needed before you are armed with all the information one would like to have before making a purchase, these are free online so you may as well use it when searching though. Allot of dealers go by the coin dealer newsletter for their pricing, if you want to see what its like I believe you can have them send you a free copy so you can get a feel if this is the kind of information you desire. CoinWorld sends out a Pricing guide about once every 3 months (may be every other month) I believe if you have a subscription to their magazine and that magazine usually has allot of articles that is good to read for someone that enjoys learning whats going on in the hobby

Welcome aboard. I too joined only a few days ago and I'm looking for modern, ultra low premium coins too.

Have you found anywhere suitable online?

Welcome back Gary!

Do you have any coins from before you stopped collecting?

If so...
