booyah, ya, the Adams quote is one of my favorites. I also like Teddy Roosevelt's quote, "when they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer present or not guilty". I really do believe whole heartedly in our government, just not its' elected officials. Jim

Spend $500 dollars and buy a gun safe. They weigh 600lb+,they bolt to the floor, and no one is going to get it open. You will sleep better at night.

A good burglar with the right tools can have that gun safe open in less than 2 minutes.....

Morganman,
While I agree that a "professional thief" can open a safe, most of the people caught for breaking & entering cannot. Most of these people are looking for the easy pickings and won't take the time or trouble to have the proper tools or are they experienced enough to get into a good safe. They usually grab whats in easy access and might make a lame attempt to get the safe open, rarely with any sucess. Then move to where the pickings are easier.

TLS is correct. Run in, run out. Pick up a small safe if it's not bolted down. There really is no defense against a skilled burglar.

Jim:

I like the Roosevelt's quote even more... How true!

It's OK that everyone doesn't share all our interests...
Their loss.

I have many friends with very different interests...

I don't care what it is, but they have to get excited about something or I don't find them interesting.

Morganman is right. (though police should pick up on that connection quickly - if it is a priority)

It never ceases to amaze me how hard some people will work to keep from working...

Since the possiblity of theft is a fact of life, there is no need to be paranoid.

We are either prepared or we are not.

Numismatics is a hobby, something done for pleasure. If collecting coins causes this much stress and paranoia, take up crocheting or basket-weaving. Get insurance on the coins. Buy a safe. And enjoy the coins.

Jim

I stumbled upon a deal for this one at the local wal mart,, had a little inside info !! My wife works at the store, they were getting new ones and these were on their way to the dumpster if you can believe that ?

it took two men and a boy to get it into the house .

Just where others can be found ? I wish I knew I would jump on it in a heart beat .

Metalman, we probably could not afford them new, but maybe we cannot afford not to. Do you think your wife could ask where they get them new? Hopefully the price is not too bad. Jim
