if it never arrived then I think the seller is doing the right thing to offer a refund, there is not much more than he can do

I can't tell if that coin really says 1864.

That's a strange looking 4. I'm not really into Indian cents. Are you thinking it's more valuable than what you paid, and perhaps the seller never sent it? Unless it's some extremely rare variety or date, I think you're better off without it because, frankly, the coin is not attractive. You can get an undamaged lower grade piece for a few bucks. So, anyway, I'm thinking there's more to the story here.

I'll wait a bit longer before I divulge the details.

It looks like 1869 to me.

Ok. I have my answer. For those of you who responded to my other thread about how to contact another ebay user, thanks. But I was barking up the wrong tree. The seller didn't send it to him nor was it lost in the mail. Here is a current auction for an eerily similar-looking coin: http://cgi.ebay.com/1869-Indian-Hea...ce_W0QQitemZ150083702763QQihZ005QQcategoryZ41085QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Do I have a right to be angry? Or was it just an honest mistake by the seller that I was underhandedly trying to capitalize on? Please advise, as my moral compass is in the shop.

I'd at least want an explaination. It looks like the seller made a mistake with the photo/listing. You could be upset at not getting a deal, but is it really worth it? Maybe the guy will help you out on another item for your understanding. Let me know what happens.

I have exchanged emails with him in the past few minutes. He is saying the right things. I'll certainly let you know how it turns out.

He could have just gotten his pics and auctions crossed up. I have done that before but I usually double check when I am done listing and catch it right away.
If he is willing to make things right by either sending an 1864 or refunding money then I would let it go at that. As long as he is being cool about it then that is always good for me.

Thank you for your comments. I believe we have a happy resolution.
He ended the 2nd auction early and is sending me the coin. We were both civil in our exchange. Assuming things go as promised, it's all good.
Basically, if he had said to me straight out that he made an honest mistake in the listing and couldn't honor the flawed auction, I wouldn't have raised a stink. I would have accepted a refund or an 1864 BR without issue. Instead, the seller didn't contact me and waited for me to initiate the contact, asking where my coin was. Then the seller pretended it had been lost (without actually SAYING so, mind you). It was left to me to find the relisting and then get steamed.
I don't suggest anyone avoid this seller because of this incident, we all make errors in judgement. It's never the mistake, it's always the cover-up!
It's a stuffpy coin, but it's mine. [hey, I didn't type that word!]
