i found my old coin collection, and in in a very strange coin about the size and color of a penny, but in a language I cant really identify.

doing some research the best match I could find were indian presidency coins, but I couldnt identify this exact one, or even figure out much about this one.

Its a Mughal coin from India. From one of the Princely States. Someone that knows WAY more about these than I, will likely chime in soon.

what exactly is the flan?

im assuming you are not implying the date is stamped on a mexican custard dessert.

Flan, plan, planchet...the metal disc that is struck to become a coin.
For this coin the dies used were larger than the planchet, so not all of the coin design is present. If the planchet were equal to the dies, the date would be at the top of your first picture.

ah, that explains it. I looked up the coin you mentioned and noticed it lacked the line going through the middle like both sides of this one have. (this is where I found pictures of it: http://www.numismaster.com/ta/insid...deInfoDenom)
