Just picked up a set of these. Good buy or not? I know I know the grading company is not the "premier" but I have seen singles going for more than all 4 graded ICG

Did you look at the shipping costs.
Nearly $30 is pretty steep

I believe trout1105 was seeing the cost of shipping to Australia, which would have been more than you paid for the coins.

Nothing wrong with ICG at all. Not a bad price at all.

Curious as to what your aim is here with these 4.....

And, I know this is debatable, but the 2006 S mint IS considered "by the U.S. Mint" to be the final coin in that series. It's "Return to Monticello".
People don't like to include it because now all of the Nickels going forward are with this design, so it's not "different", but nonetheless, it's the "end of the journey" coin.
And a "complete" collection would HAVE to include this one, IMO.....

Quote:
The new 2006 Jefferson nickel is the final stage of the Mint's Westward Journey Nickel Series that celebrated the bicentennials of two major accomplishments of the Jefferson Administration. "This nickel features a forward-looking President Jefferson who recognized that the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark expedition would expand our horizons in numerous ways" commented Acting Mint Director David Lebryk. "This is a hopeful, positive image, emblematic of a bright future for our Nation."

So, although I do "sympathise" with those who want to collect how and what they want. And whether or not they want to include this Nickel...that's perfectly fine of course..... but the fact remains that it isn't really debatable AT ALL..... .... It's a pure and simple fact that the 2006 Jefferson is the last coin meant for the Westward Series collection issued by the U.S. Mint.
Done.....debate over ! .......
(I hope I don't re-ignite this one !) ....

Really, I was just letting you know this in case you didn't know, you could seek out the 2006 ICG proof !

But, anyway, are you going to keep them "housed/slabbed", or are you going to put them in a Dansco ?
Or a custom album just for slabbed L.P.N.'s ?

I'm curious what you plan to do with them ! ........

The design for the 2006 is different than any previous year, so it has to be included for a complete type set. Hence it is different for a type set.

And I'm curious as to why you bought the 4 coin set. Are you building a type set for them?

I mainly bought them because I like the way they look. I will prob add the P And D as well as the 2006PDS. I have no specific plans for them, I will probably keep them stabbed.

Oh and would it matter if it is ICG graded or another TPG, it terms of "appeal".

One way to look at it is that the 2006 nickel is like the 2010 cent, being the first year of a new permanent design after a special one (or two) year commemorative design.

ICG isn't one of the main/big 3 (PCGS, NGC, and ANACS), so I don't think its grade carries well as the other 3.
