Hey guys, Bought a 1972 proof set a few years ago off ebay, paid ~160 for it so not a bargain. Been looking for a while for some more like it but they don't come up too often. Just wondering then, are these worth a premium or just the sort of price you would pay for a '72 proof set?

I think these early issues from Hutt do command a premium,i remember a discussion on the ebay forums about 4/5 years ago, I think their a bit like the yarralumla in that they were early starters in this area of first day covers etc. This must nearly be one of their first issues as they only started in 1972,i think. There is some info on google about Hutt River but I could'nt find this set.

Hutt River Province is a self-declared country in Oz, consisting of about 30 farmers and a whole messa sheeps.
The only reason Oz authorities don't take an afternoon off and kick their butts is they're making more money from them as a tourist attraction than they paid in taxes.

"Hutt Commemoratives" is the company name I believe. If you browse the American ebay site you will see more than the Australian site. I actually quite like them as an unusual numismatic item with a bit of a story to them. $160 seems to me to be quite a good price as they are often listed with a $500+ buy it now price tag. Rarely do they come up as a no reserve auction to let the market set the price. - I'm talking lots of different Hutt Commemorative products, not specifically this one. My feeling is the company started making these covers in 1970.

It's definitely a unique part of my collection, nothing quite like it. Yeah I've been struggling to find information about this set and/or others like it, glad to hear my deal was ok. Been scouring ebay for other sets and I can only find the 500+ BIN auctions which has to be an inflated value. I'll continue my search!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/22096267487...t_872wt_1165this '73 set sold for about 116, given that was uncirculated set and yours is proof, I would say about 150 - 160 is about right for your set. I have several of these sets myself and many of just the 50c one from broken up sets and while it would be nice to see them appreciate they are part of my 50c collection and won't be going anywhere

p.s.s. there are lots of numismatic items not in maccas... and generally the RAM issued sets sell at a premium over the same set when in PNC form as the act of breaking open the RAM case introduces the risk of PMD and hence devalues the coins.
