I am a bit perplexed with this PCGS genuine 1834 small date, small letter half. First the genuine is due to a staple scratch barley visible on the observe photo but obvious in hand.

I'm interested in thoughts on technical grade. The reverse has tremendous luster and crisp detail, not as much on the observe. Both sides have little or no rim, is this a result of a undersized planchet? your thoughts on this coin?

I will go with AU-50. Where is the staple scratch?

Two faint lines between her bust and the bottom star.

Based on seeing no reverse wear, I'm thinking the front is more strike related than wear. If the luster is full, I see no reason why this isn't AU55 or higher.

Nothing looks filed or tooled, does it?

Looks like a great coin to me.. I'm stumped on the genuine. I would think you'd still have to pay close to the normal going rate of a non-details coin for an attractive "genuine" coin like this. Some discount just for the slab.. but not what you'd expect to see in a genuine slab.

I would say AU-55 should be about right as a technical grade on this one

Little that there is, the reverse wear keeps it at AU-50. IMO. Beautiful coin. How bad is the scratch in hand?
