I dont think anyone will ever forge a coin and make it look that worn unless its a key date.

if I was a forger I cant help but think the safest way would be to make more common coins and accept a smaller profit, rare coins would soon be found out, less rare wouldnt draw a second look in most cases. just my thinking

I see your point but would argue that most criminals don't settle for small profits and are looking to strike it rich quick. Each time the crime gets larger and more daring and would be hard to contain to $10 florins. The initial start up cost, time and metal cost would never be recovered. Plus they don't need the counterfeit coin to stand up to scrutiny from multiple people, only one, the original buyer. After they sell it its the new owners problem to deal with.

In the late 20's early 30's there were Counterfeiters of common date florins.

They are actually very good fakes and I'm sure they circulated without being easily recognised. £11,000 pounds in florins is 110,000 coins! So maybe there is some of these florins still in collections today.

When they were counterfeited a florin would have bought quite a bit. Happy to be wrong here but still doubt there is modern forgers making fake common date florins.

Yes I agree with you that it is very unlikely that forgers would bother with lower value coins these days.
You can still buy the early forgeries, you see them on ebay now & then.

The Manders and Twible counterfeit florins sell well, I have seen them sell for over $100, funny that worth more the genuine coin they are only in low grades tho, a bit of social history .
