Well my parents were cleaning out the house yesterday and gave me an 1887 Liberty Dollar - New Orleans Mint. It looks to be in near mint condition.

I know absolutely nothing about coins. I know it's worth at least its silver weight but any other vaule to this year and mint combination? Thank for any assistance for this noob!

A common date Morgan dollar but always worth more than silver weight. The value is in the fact that it was a gift from your parents and would be a nice start to a collection. There is also the 1887-O, 7 over 6 variety which has a much higher premium in the higher grades. Here is a link to values and a pic of the variety.

Thanks! Always nice to know the details. My father in law has been getting proof sets for the boys for years so I"ll add this to their collection. Don't know much about coins at all so thanks for the education.

Coinfish to the Forum!

That was a great gift from your parents! That's how numismatists start!

P.S. Tell your parents about our web site. We want to see their collection!
