I am newer to coin collecting and I was just wondering the best place to get rolls of the new pennies. I asked my credit union and they said they do not have them. Where does everyone get them?

For me it's just chance. I haven't been able to order any given date for a lot of years now. I was able to order a mint bag,yes a mint bag from my bank back in 1995. Whenever I ask now they tell me they get what they get. John1

Sometimes my bank gets them and sometimes they don't. I will ask or they usually tell me when they have something good from the Feds. Now my daughter is a teller there and that helps a lot.

Half way through the year when you go to the bank to get boxes of pennies, every other one will be a box of shiny 2012s. :)

Yeah. I always have trouble finding new cents at the beginning of the year, but then I end up getting flooded with them by mid-year (with the notable exception of 2009).

Credit Unions are on a low budget, so they generally don't order from the Federal Reserve. Your best bet is to try other banks. I've had good luck with Wachovia (now Wells Fargo, so I don't know if they are any better or not) and BB&T.

Your local bank is your best bet if you don't want to pay inflated ebay prices. There are a couple banks in my neighborhood who are sympathetic to collectors. From time to time when I know a new coin was released, I go in and ask the teller about it. Some tellers are more helpful than others when you do this. At a couple of banks the tellers will ask each other about it. At some others they'll just say no when you're in mid sentence. Both have happened to me. Three weeks after the new 2012 El Yunque quarter was released I went into a bank near my house where I knew they are accommodating to collectors and asked them about it. The teller went into the back and brought back a roll for me. This place is my ace in the hole for new coins. It's trial and error to find the bank tellers who will go about looking for coins for you and the same with the banks.

I just got some 2012 pennies from the bank, but each roll has 2-10 old cents mixed in. I guess brinks just takes the Ballistic Bags from the fed and dumps them in the hopper with the rest of their coins, so there's no way to get pure 2012 rolls. I've been cherry-picking out nicer ones to build my own rolls, but they're all pretty spotted already; it's hard to find satisfying ones.

Thank you for all of the comments. Bbradford71, do you know if there is shipping on that website? Matchbox thanks for the good tips. I will have to check local banks for friendly looking people.
