Hello, I would like to know if anyone might know how I could best sell or auction some coins to raise money for my Charity. I am the founder and the Charity is called 4 The World https://www.4theworld.org Any Ideas? Is e-bay the best way to go. I am taking students from USC to build a school in Belize and any help with ways that I may fundraise for this is much appreciated. Thanks! Image: montage2.jpg39.75 KB

ebay is a good way to sell them, but what is your knowledge level regarding coins? You just need to be sure that you know what you have so you can get a good price for them. Also, do you have any experience with selling on ebay?

Also, if you sell on ebay, you have to register as a valid charity ahead of time, or you cannot mention it in your auction listing. If you don't register as a charity, you can still sell them,, you just can't talk about your cause. Too many snakes have lied about bogus charities.

Bald eagle, my mission here at Coin Community requires me to make sure you're aware that there's a line we must draw between learning how to create a charity auction, and making such an offer here in the forum. As you must understand, such an offering is something the admins have reserved the right to approve beforehand.
Your question is legitimate, and I will happily allow the thread to proceed - I am making this point as much for the general membership as for your own benefit.

Sorry for the late response to this post. I only know very little about the values of coins but I do have experience with ebay. They are both great fun. I would also like to not cross any lines of this website or the administrators and the community because it is a nice website! My Charity is legitimate, a registered 501c3 non denominational, non religious, non profit organization. We are registered with ebay mission fish, and many other organizations designed to help the public research our credibility. I will refrain from mentioning our mission or our organization on this website and just utilize it for learning information on coin related issues. Thanks for your important feedback!

Not quite true. ebay's fundraising policies permit selling with or without going through its Giving Works program: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies...raising.htmlI sell many items on behalf of a Boy Scout Council. Because of the high fees charged through the Giving Works program (not to mention the major hassle of registering), we elected to not participate. Rather, we run the auctions as regular auctions. Fred, wouldn't it make sense to charge LOWER fees for a seller who has registered as a charity? I have never looked into the Giving Works program, but I have to say that I'm disappointed that they are charging higher fees for charities than for regular sellers.

Susan, I thought the same thing: that charities would get a break from fees. But when I investigated the possibility of getting my Scout sales into the Giving Works program since all my Scout patch auctions are fundraisers, I was astounded how much ebay's vendor MissionFish actually skims off the top. I also was discouraged by the amount of paperwork that needed to be submitted by my home Boy Scout Council although I can't state that it's unreasonable. There is also a minimum $5 donation for each item and about half of my items I'm selling on behalf of the Council go for less than 5 dollars. It just wasn't worth it. If we were talking about several hundreds or thousands of dollars in donations, then that might be a different story. This is an oversimplification of a complex situation, but I did a benefit-cost analysis on getting the Council registered and ebay flunked the analysis.
