I was going through a large lot of mid 1900's era currency. Most of it the usual US Notes and Silver Certificates when I found this note. Yellow Seal on a Series 1953A US Note. I can't find this variety cataloged anywhere. Looks real under a microscope. Red and Blue fibers weave through the material; looks legit to me. Is this an error note? Anyone seen this before? I wondered that too. Next to the VF Red seal, it looks lighter, but it looks fine to me under a microscope for the amount of wear it has.
Wouldn't it be hard to wash the black away without effecting the Gold?
Also, don't know of any other note with that configuration of Gold ink on the seal and the serial.
1928 Gold Certs have seals on the left, North Africa Notes have blue serials, and much larger seals.

The red ink on red seals can fade or be chemically altered to orange or yellow. Lots of these appear on ebay. They are not errors and really should only be a novelty item but people who do not know any better bid them up.

That is good to know about those fakes. It is something how they keep on coming up with more scams. They are worse than the people in China making the fake old US coins.

Don't know why I didn't see it before. The top of the seal still has a little bit of red in it.

This isn't necessarily a scam. These have been around for years. The story I heard years ago was the detergent used by the industrial uniform companies would chemically react with the red ink of a $5 bill when it was left in a pocket and washed. I don't know how true this is.

The scam part is when people list them on ebay and claim they are errors.

Looks as someone was trying to make it look like one of the North Africa WWII notes made in 1934-35)
The North Africa notes were not made until 1942-43 for the invasion of North Africa in WWII.
