I have an 1842 silver dollar. I suspect it to be a fake. It's medal oriented. Is this a fake or has anybody heard of this type of alignment on one of these coins?

, ddafternoons!

It could be fake, or 180° rotated. Pix of both sides, no flash, macro, 500pixel, would help.

99% likelihood it's fake. While the 1842 S$1 is relatively common, the odds of a 180 degree rotation is very low.

A couple pics could confirm it.

I agree, it being medal oriented isn't definitive of it being fake because it can happen in the real world but it is uncommon enough that one would need to take an extra look at one that was rotated 180°

Chances are it is not real. I've seen a few 45* rotated, but 180* is far too unlikely. Have you weighed up the coin and measured the diameter to see if it matches up.

The weight should be: 26.73grams
The diam. should be: 38.1mm

I'm kind of curious to see if it is or not.

See if it will stick to a magnet, if it does then you will know for sure. If it doesn't that does not mean it is real as the new fakes won't be attracted to a magnet.
