Hello, I am not a collector but I tend to hold onto any old coin I find. Today I found this one and googled it, a 1922 Wheat penny. My question is how do you tell if it is a D or a weak D? There is something there it shows up in pictures. The closest coin identifier I can find is an hour away from my home. I have several other wheat pennies but not nearly as old as this one. This is my first post here.

Help-With-1922-Wheat-Penny Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

It appears that this LWC has been through the wringer a time or two. I am not sure on the Weak D variety, someone should be able to speak smartly about your cent. If you could get a closer image of the cent that would be a great benefit. Worse case scenario...it's a semi-key!

Nice find.

Your particular penny has the "D" mintmark located below the date on the obverse.

ALL 1922 dated Lincoln cents were minted at the Denver Mint. There was a problem with some over polishing of the dies and a possible forgotten mintmark. So, when you see "1922 No D" Lincoln Cent, the mint mark was polished off the die or not added.

Your coin grades as Good.

The "D" is located just under the year "1922."
Between the 9" and the "2," Denver cents are often weakly stuck, to the point that examples are found with the mint mark completely missing.
No cents were made either at Philadelphia or San Francisco that year. *
If a person can see the "D" then the coin is not a "plain."
Doesn't hurt to keep any old pennies, and your example could be sold for several dollars.
* That is the reason why ALL 1922s are good to keep.
Rest in Peace

If you post pics straight on of the obverse and revere, We may be able to tell you the die marriage of your cent.
