I checked the U.S. Mint website yesterday, and under their Product Schedule they have listed a Presidential dollar Proof Set. I presume, in the absence of other information, that this will contain the four Presidential dollars. How many of y'all will order such sets, what's the most you will pay for (assuming) $4 face value of base metal coinage, and how many will you order? I'm curious about your responses ... thanks! Hi giorgio
I moved your post here where more people will see it and have an opportunity to respond.
I for one am having a hard time getting excited about these coins,, so I would not be willing to pay much for them in any form,, of course that could change once I see the actual coin, but my feelings about the design will more than likely not improve. I'm pretty sure there were better designs that were passed up in order to put the Presidents on them,, and I wont even start on my feelings about the first lady coins .

I've never bought a proof set, so I wouldn't begin to know what a fair market value would be; however, with all the new collectors who began their collections with the State Quarter series, the Presidential dollars, I believe, will be a big thing. I would venture to say that, once the hoopla has died down about this "new coin", they will be listed on ebay at a reasonable price, and that's when I'll consider buying mine. Ralph

I can't answer all the questions asked. I can only say that I do plan on buying the proof sets. I disagree with metalman in that I continue to be excited about the new coins. I completely agree with metalman on the First Ladies Coins. Most of them weren't relevent, and there's lots of other designs the Government could have used. Back to the Presidential dollars -- I hope we aren't disappointed. I wish they were going to be a larger coin, but of course that's not possible due to vending machines.

Hi Gary, I agree with you, I think they are going to be exciting, maybe in the same league with the first-year Statehood Quarters proof sets, which of course have done quite well. I can't get excited about the First Lady coins (excuse me Bill and Hillary, First Spouse), but thinking as a contrarian, there may be some rare coins, albeit expensive ones with little demand? Stay posted ... this topic will not go away soon. Best Regards,

giorgio11, One of the things I find interesting is the marked change of attitude I've witnessed. When talk first started about Presidential dollars many months ago, a vast majority of the posts on coin forums were negative. The main complaint was "more dead Presidents." Now, if you read the posts you find more and more positive comments, and collectors really getting excited about a new issue. As stated previously, I just hope we aren't disappointed.

I can't say that I'm excited about the new $. But I will collect the business strikes. I like to look at proofs, but I don't own many.

Here is the only photograph of an actual US Mint Washington dollar that I know of: About all I can say is, well, I like the reverse.

I will probably order one set just for the sake of having it. I am not especially thrilled about the coins, hopefully they will have some eye appeal in hand. Right now the pictures just don't inspire me or make me look forward to the future pres coins. I am also hoping they won'r be expensive, less the $15 for the proof set I think is reasonable. Danial, where do we order yours? Margaret
