Gyrene7483 Pillar of the Community United States 1704 Posts	Posted 02/26/2012 01:41 am A short time ago I bought an 1861 3 cent silver piece from a friend that has a rotated reverse of 180 degrees otherwise known as medallic alignment. It was a raw coin and I sent it off to NGC for grading and attribution of the error. The coin is a solid AU coin showing virtually no wear and to my surprise NGC slabbed it an XF-45. I showed the coin to my coin club president who had worked as a professional grader and he said it should have been labeled an AU-50. Ed ANA LM-3175 Report this Post to the Staff

I took it to three separate dealers including the one I bought it from and no one could identify the tooling. I left it in that obnoxious slab because it is protected and I am keeping the beautiful coin for me. Don't let the "grade" bother you too much if you are planning on keeping it.
