G'day all! I just bought two coins and now I'm wondering if I made a fool out of myself or with I actually made a good catch. The coins I bought (together) was ¼ and ½ Dala 1883 from Hawaii. Now I need to know the grades and if they're authentic. When I've received the right answers (hehe) I will reveal what I bought them for. It would be fun though if you'd tell me what you would pay for them. Or guess what I payed for them. Ok, here they are: Edited by Ngdawa 02/26/2012 05:16 am

I won't be any help here but hopefully forum member paleoguy45 will chime in soon. He should be able to give you some valuable input on these. It would probably help if you could post larger pics of both coins, obv & rev.

Paleoguy would be the one to talk to. There are a lot of $1 and 1/2 Dala fakes out there. Larger pics and weight would help, but I think these coins should only be bought certified.

OK, I will try to get better pics. These are the ones from the auction, I yet don't have the coins in hand. The seller assured though that they were authentic...

Well...a lot of sellers say something is authentic, but fewer will refund if the coins are found to be copies--I hope this seller stands by their coins. Did the seller give weights? Somebody might be able to detect fakes through pictures, but it's much harder to verify real coins that way. The only way to be sure is by sending the coins for authentication by a TPG, or an expert. I hope they're real!

I think they look to be real, the quarter looks cleaned and scratched. The half maybe cleaned long ago and retoned.

Hopefully I'll get them today, and then I can take better pics and give more details about them.

I've been really busy the last week and almost forgot about it, but here's a new photo of the coins. Please let me know if you need any details. The quarter looks cleaned though...
