I sat through maybe half the auction on the phone. they had about 80 from what I was told, but most were after the bulk silver. I don't know where that lot of 1971 silver dollar came from. I certainly never expect to see so many at once again in my life!

The big lot sold for 1500. It probably had that covered in Canadian silver valued at melt. There were probably 200 tokens, plus lots and lots of other stuff. Of the stuff I won, the lot I am most keen on was the last one. It went for 650; all the others lots were way over estimates. I forget exactly how much the melt is, but my notes would let me bid up to $1200 or more, so it was a steal. Lots of good stuff....1858 20 cents, a half dozen vicky quarters, an 1872 half, probably 20 newf silver half dollars.....five books, about 50 coins a book, half silver maybe more......

I love the mysteries of an auction when you can't see what is actually there. Just the thought of winning an auction with the lots that you have won, discolored paper and all, makes me very envious. One of these days I would love to try an online auction outside of ebay. Big bucks but well worth the adventure! Kudos to you.

Well, I have spent a few hours today going through my haul from last night....probably 20 pounds altogether. As I go through it, I think some of my best finds may end up being in the odds and ends of worldcrowns. A few nice victorian MS pieces there. As far as Canada goes, I ended up with a little over $30 face of Canadian silver more or less at melt with all the copper and nickel for free. I think my favourite of the group is the one in the photo below. But I picked up nice 37 38 and 46 dollars, quite a few decent early halves and about 20 nice Vicky silver coins (1858 20 cents, 1864 NB 20 cents, 1885 10 cents, 1888 25 cents, 18886 25 cents, 1904 Nfld 25 cents). Nothing outstanding, but quite a few of the $40-50 kind of quality. Not bad for melt! Anyone care to give a grade opinion on this.....I have my own (optimistic?) view and I plan on sending it to ICCS. But if experts out there feel it is a waste of money please chime in!

They are the biggest general auction house in Toronto. They occassionally have coins but I have never seen anything like this from them before. Apparently most of it came from the Public Trustee selling on behalf of heirless estates. From the stuff I bought, I am guessing it was almost all from one collection (a former dealer?) which was stopped around 1970. Rare to see it sold so indiscriminately.

I'd love to do a few auction-rounds. Never been to a coin-specific one. If anyone's interested in going, let me know. Send me an email.
