History says that Saint Nicholas a bishop in the fourth century AD is credited with being recognized as the first Santa Claus due to his kindness and generous nature to help the poor. Centuries later this tradition of gift giving continued and the name Saint Nicholas became Father Christmas, Christ Kind, Pere Noel, Kris Kringle, Sinterklaas and Santa Claus depending on the country.

Similarities have been compared between Santa Claus and Odin a god in Norse mythology. Similarities also included "Sleipnir" Odin's eight legged horse which could leap and fly far distances just as Santa's reindeer. According to folklore children would leave treats such as sweets, sugar, carrots for Sleipnir and in return would receive gifts from Odin. Today children leave milk and cookies for Santa Claus and his reindeer and are also rewarded with gifts.

This token of Father Christmas I am assuming would be from England as England was known to use "Father Christmas". I do not know the origin of this token and all help is appreciated... Thanks

DBM...thanks bud...

This is a good start, the one in the link sure looks in great condition...I think that the clasped hand shake would probably represent some thing else at Christmas with "Mutual Greetings" and not marriage.

Thanks again...
