O.K.,I am always tossing APMEX under the bus, but I gotta say I like the new lunar dragon series bars an rounds alright, and they are priced real nice right now today ONLY.... http://www.apmex.com/Category/1490/...=022912Aban1The thing that always gets me about APMEX, is shipping cost.... The thing is orders 250 or less are generally 12.95, which is FOUR more bucks then Provident at 8.95 for similar size order. OVER 250 bucks as most would be, is 19.95.... Even if you bought with CC (costs you a bit more as we all know), and paid that 20 for the freight, you are still getting these bars for right at 38 bucks per.... Now then, silver has fell all the way to 34 an a half, so this WINDOW may be real small, or who knows maybe it will open up even wider just yet.... Gotta love how they put you on the one day hot seat, with those specials TIMED just perfect to trigger some sells when it is dropping like a rock, lol.... Sorry I had the wrong link pasted, fixed now it should be.... Edited by Silverhawk74 02/29/2012 2:01 pm

Heh. I bet APMEX wasn't planning on silver dropping $2.50/ounce when they announced this one-day special...

Ahhhh... what the heck. Minimum credit card purchase is $100, so I just bought three 1/2 oz Year of the Dragon Silver Bars and three 1/2 oz Year of the Dragon Silver Round for a grand total of $128.51 (including shipping).

Not a bad buy at all BarryG, as those guys can carry a nice premium when silver shoots up, as half oz. ones always do. I have had one of those 1/2 lunar dragon bars, and one of the 1 oz. rounds, not bad silver at all. May have sold them to TBK, can't recall now, lol....
I like Prov to TBK, but they just don't have much that is catching my eye right now, even though their prices have dropped nicely I am sure since I was last window shopping there....

I've never bought half oz. rounds before, but they didn't have any one oz. dragon rounds and I wasn't in the mood to buy plain silver bars or rounds.

Quote:I gave up APMEX for Provident Metals. I love the $11.95 shipping Yes, Provident does have lower shipping prices. I have purchased from them and will continue to do so. What I like most about APMEX is that they usually have more items of interest to me in stock and they also have coins in various grades while others only have circulated coins. There are times when I can buy BU or proof quality 90% US silver coins for little to no more than they charge for their circulated coins. A few times, I have gotten proofs for less than they charge for similar circulated coins. This is rare but it does happen. I enjoy looking at my collection and always enjoy nice looking coins more than ones that just look average. They are worth a little more to me for that reason. I understand that they might not be for others, so it is good that we have a number of good vendor choices.

This seemed like a decent deal so I jumped headfirst on this from Canada. I just placed a fairly large order with APMEX, mostly APMEX silver but also with a few Britannias. They sent me a ``warning`` email stating that the Britannias are only 95% pure. This is me out a little as now I`m wondering if I set off a chain reaction of brokerage fees, customs duties, and taxes making this really expensive silver. Found this post by poboxw in an old thread: Quote:poboxw: Internationally, APMEX is my favorite. They take Canadian dollars and if you wire the payment, you can have your order in hand within 4-5 days if you have the customs brokerage with FEDEX sorted out (free to registere). So does that mean I should contact FEDEX directly regarding my shipment from APMEX before I receive it? My understanding is that the silver should be duty and tax free but the Britannia may be duty free but taxable? Is that correct? Would I only have to pay taxes on the Britannias? Or would there be other penalty charges, e.g. extra brokerage fees. No wonder Britannias are harder to find in Canada!

Here is my thing about APMEX. They generally have the best selection of anyone and even if the shipping is a little much, if you buy in quantity it really isn't that bad broken down by coin and is way cheaper than paying sales tax from a local source, you just gotta buy a few hundred bucks worth at a time and that shipping premium diss appears quite fast. Not only that but the people at APMEX are very nice to deal with over the phone and are always more than helpful. Their website is also easy to use. I have been buying from them for years now and will probably continue to do so.

@Hobbes: I've yet to be taxed on the britannias but customs Canada have the right to charge it. In that case you'd only pay for the customs on the britannias. You could call into FedEx to setup a permanent file to sign over power of attorney in regards to customs brokerage to them. If you do that before the shipment hits the Canadian borders, there will be little to no delay. If you don't, you'll have to sign and fax a brokerage agreement every time a package comes through, and the delay will be at least a full business day or three every time due to communication and trading of documents both ways.

Just got my order in from APMEX! I bought three of each of these: They are nice, but I think I'll definitely stick with full ounces from now on. These are just too small for my taste...

I had some of the 1 oz dragon rounds from them and liked them a lot but sold them last week and then flipped for gold. Very nice rounds but I wish they had put them in smaller plastic holders than the huge floppy ones they came in.

I actually put the half ounce rounds into some 34mm Lighthouse capsules (meant for half dollars, I think) and they fit just fine. The bars I transferred into Mylar flips.
