So, I know I am not the only PM lover watching this mind rot on History at 9 on Fridays, lol....

Poor ol Dakota Fred is having a tough season. Some may call it bad karma, as he pushed the Hoffman guys out of the porky pine claim, and now his machines are breaking down and his house flooded back home. I like ol Fred, I can't blame him for not wanting to work with those knuckle heads, as he is the veteran and they did not act like his experience was worth anything IMO last season. James the mechanic even tried to start a fight with him, and he was only making the right move, as their setup last season was a mess, green horn city. I hope Fred can turn it around before he looses everything....

Meanwhile the young 16 year old hit a tough spell wasting time an precious gas looking under those old broke loose digging buckets, but now is making a big gamble to go excavate the hill, and him and his family are building a road to access it....

And all the time the Hoffman's take a crazy gamble IMO, and go up to the Klondike and get a claim with no information to go on at all. Finally, they started to learn something from someone who has been there an done it, when the guy who makes millions up there every year told them to survey drill, and they did in 12 spots, and found gold where it is supposed to be....

Next, they fired up their wash plant and UNFORESEEN problem 1042 pops up. My dad always said unforeseen problems is what people never take into account, so true. Dirty unfiltered water coming from the pond, stopping up their spray jets. So, the usually hard working mechanic found a new girl friend and took a couple days to recoup. Can you blame him as he came back strong an spent like a day plus welding that pipe filter on his knees with that busted back to add to the wash plant in order to stop roots and what not from getting into the spray jets. The jets of course wash the gold rich material from the rocks as they slide down the wash plant in theory, and it gets caught in the medal ridge traps below, as gold is 19 times heavier than water....

Call me crazy, but these goof balls may actually find some gold this season, as they have much time left in the season, and all the frozen per-ma frost broke up, melted into brown mud sludge, and bull dozed away, where as they can get to the ground which holds the gold....

My point with all this, people have no concept how much, money, time, effort, gas, blood, sweat, and tears go into that pretty little gold eagle you love so. That is another reason why it has the value it does IMO....

I think the kid is the smartest one of the bunch. Imagine being that old and having that much responsibility?.

I like the way he bought the generator from Jack, only to turn it around and make 2K on it. Like he said, that was a no brainer.

That young kid definitely has some skills. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to ride a 20-ton truck up that 45 degree "road". His grandpa is something else too. 91 years old and still coming out to the mine.

Not a big fan of old Dakota Fred. Although it's still hard not to feel bad for the man since his house was pretty much destroyed.

I just started watching this show and it amazes me how much work they must do to get what seems like a small amount of metal.

I agree guys, that kids maturity is of the charts for a 16 year old. He thinks in ways that did not even occur to me to at least my mid 30's....

He needs to find gold on that hill though, or the cost of fuel an man power might just bankrupt his operation. The grandpa is way laid back, and does not seem to be too worried....

If I were 91 and had such a bright energetic grandson I don't think I would worry about much.

True that Muddler, as the father in the middle has also been building roads for 35 years I think they said, and the older brother was out there running those machines as well and helping him get that road going. So the entire family seems pretty sharp, and like you said at age 91 and little time left, I am sure he feels good knowing the bus will be in good hands....

The poor Hoffman crew was just getting ready to run some dirt and got kicked out. I think Fred should have kept the Hoffman crew and continued working the Glory Hole. Now its not looking good for anybody but maybe the young kid.

I've watched all the episodes and have enjoyed them. I root for the kid and his grandpa who laughs at randomness.

I've been watching since the beginning. Learned a lot about how it's done or not done. I am however getting a little tired of the same story line every episode, optimism, then two people argue, then they make up, and something breaks down. Thats about it. It would be nice if someone actually does find some gold. I guess the kid found a little at the beginning but nothing since. I'll keep watching this season but I might give up if nothing is found for the second straight year.

P.S. I am also impressed by the kid. I have a 16 year old girl and can't imagine her being that mature at 26.

I feel you on that Bluezone, as you hit mid season, you wanna see some gold. All the gold we have seen this season, was found by the 16 year old in all that old dirt from one of his grandfather's former operations seems like....

And yeah, I bet Fred wished he had kept the Hoffman's around with all their equipment and access to funds. All they needed to do was bring in Fred's wash-plant and if they all had any team player in them, they could have set the old one up close by and used it too, or for a backup or something, via being able to always run dirt, or twice as much....

Ah, yes, "reality" TV. "So and so is dying from pain, the flu, laziness, or something or other, and they're in the middle of nowhere without a 24 hour pharmacy in sight."

So quit bellyaching and take one of your fleet of heckacopters and 60 camera and production crew and haul him to civilization.

Suspension of disbelief only goes so far before it becomes stupidity.

Absolutely right, Fredd. Unfortunately that does not seem to be as far for a lot of us as it is for the producers of this drek.

I know it is all scripted for the most part. I just enjoy learning about the process of finding the gold, and really hope those producers did their homework before they wrote the script, so as to give us some what of an accurate idea how this gold is mined....

All the same, I'd rather see a documentary than a bunch of hyped-up nonsense and created drama.

Amen to that! Me too. One would think that the History Ch. would have some history on it rather than this over-dramatized nonsense. Oh, well. Different strokes and all that.

Ed, you and Fredd are dead on right as always, as a solid well done documentary would be a better way to really show the real mines in action....

I am an info/nerd guy to say the least, as I seem to take in information that the masses simply over look, such as what they might consider a boring documentary, where I would not for example....

That is why "The History channel" has sold their soul to the scripted reality devil! Via the masses are sheep-al, and they need to be entertained, and ratings make money, just is what it is. Just like an athlete covered in advertisements for his favorite soda pop, T shirt, energy drink, fuel supplement, what freakin ever, rof, he/she sold out eh....
