Absolutely, Hawk. Shows like that are entertainment. I am sure that those who enjoy them get a lot out of watching them. Old Poops like Fredd and myself, however, are past that stage of life and get a lot more out of real intellectual stimulation than out of a fake drama. Not trying to rain on your parade here. Just saying that the beat of this particular drummer does not stir me.

So what did we learn from this episode?
Pay now or pay later: If you buy a worn out piece of crap equipment from someone who got tired of fixing it, you'll spend more patching it back to 50% functionality than if you bought a new one.

I love this show and it's made me change my opinion on a lot of things. First, anyone who romances about quitting their job to go dig for gold better thing twice... Then a third time. It's hard, dirty, dangerous work and most people would give up before they found their first picker. Second, it has changed my opinion on drilling for oil in Alaska. I now believe we should go ahead a drill. Why? It looks to to be no worse than the mess gold minders make. Just look at what they do to the land up there. If that's legal and politically correct then oil drilling should be. I say dig it all up.

Lets see, I posted this earlier in this discussion(optimism, then two people argue, then they make up, and something breaks down) Thats pretty much what happened again this week. I'm beginning to wonder if any of them will ever find gold.

If I were Todd's Dad I would have kicked his butt off of the claim a long time ago. The old man keeps workin' away in his excavator, and I've never seen Todd lift a finger unless it's to get a fork to his mouth, or adjust his hard hat..
His Dad sold his airport to finance the whole fairytail. I'm sure that Todd used to just stand around the airport and draw a check from his old man. When I see him telling his Dad that he doesn't know what he's doing it just makes my skin crawl. I can only dream of still having my Dad around, and if he was I would NEVER question what he did. Especially if I were a worthless blowhard like Todd.

lol its chumlee! one word, remember? hah
No, I like the show.. I think the young kid is in over his head.. He knows a lot, but thats because he was born into it. He didn't know what to do when the generator broke down, and he has been relying 100% on what his gramps says. I guess that all comes with time & experience too though.
Todd is cool, but he doesn't ever work.. The old man is living in a pipe dream I think, I mean @ porcupine they were just digging a huge 80' deep hole on instinct, hoping to score big. Risks can be taken later on in life, but when you are new at it all, you better play it safe and by the books.. Especially if your finances ride on it.
About the hoffmans mechanic.. idk. I don't know how he contributed financially to fund the project, but if I were Todd, I would fire him. Not out of disrespect, but the poor man is in pain and he cannot contribute much. When something breaks down, and that much money is on the line, you need that piece of equipment back up & running IMMEDIATELY.
It seems like there all a bunch a friends who are loaded and going up there to fool around, when, in reality I think financially they are looking for pocket aces on a luck streak. If I had as much as they say they have into a project like that, I would do whatever it takes to do it right. This is why success never really ends right with friends.. Sometimes you have to do what is right for the business, and that may not always seem morally right.

I have watched every episode of season 1 and 2 and I don't ven think they all have found enouugh gold to pay may salary for 1 year. Its getting really boring. I think thats why they added the 2 other mines. Even with 3 different mines goign they still can't seem to find gold in any epsiodes. I keep telling myself it will get better, but lets be honest; I don;t think they are going to find anything. If they have a season 3 I'll be suprised.

It is sad to see how far History, Discovery, and TLC have fallen. 10 years ago when I still had cable they where my favorite channels. Now I only watch cable when traveling and it seems the documentaries and knowledge based shows have been replaced by "reality" TV. No thanks.

Like I said JSH on the last post back on page 1, history sold out to the shepal masses and reality garbage....
Hey AMBRO, what channel does gold fever come on?
Jenger you called it, a bunch of loaded mo-rans up there wasting away the family fortune via part of the air port in order to fuel a pipe dream. If your gonna invest that kind of change, you are right any major down time is unacceptable, short of waiting on a hard to find mail off part which just is what it is, and you better have a PLAN and a good idea where the gold is....
No way they ever find enough gold to turn a profit, and if they do, it is because History worked out deal with some real gold miners and they secretly sneak the gold into their wash-plant late one night, and hooray 100 oz. were back in bus, lol....

Although I'm fairly certain the Aliens invented the History Channel many moons ago, just waiting on the episode to confirm it.
