I'm glad I'm not the only guy out there that enjoys the technical side of mining, and could do without all the reality-tv drama. And yes, I still look forward to watching every week.

These guys should get a job and use that money to buy gold :p. Watching them fumble around and make every possible mistake is painful. Would love to watch a show that focuses on gold mining done by some actual gold miners...

I think they are all going home broke at the end of the season.

This show is getting painful to watch, as the countless unforeseen problems never seem to end....
The 400 is stuck in the creek, the wash-plant water is full of silt, we need a filter, it just never ends. If these guys turn a profit by years end, I will bend over backwards and kiss the proverbial bottom side of the entire CCF, lol....
What is the moral lesson here, NEVER go to Canada with the unrealistic pipe dream of finding gold. Let the PROFESSIONAL miners do that, who run a business successfully every season....

After watchin that last episode....Id bet a pocket full of change, that all 3 outfits will turn a profit. They all seem to be on the gold, and it appears at least the hoffmans got there was plant dialed in. Once that 400's up and running again I think they'll come out on top by years end hands down.

Yeah, funny how that all turned around in the last ten minutes of that episode. I typed that mid way through while watchin the re-run. Counted my chickens, before they hatched so to speak on that call out prediction, lol....
The kid an Dakota Fred may end up turning a profit, and even the Hoffman's are getting a real nice per five yard average. But give it some time, as the elements will catch up with them. Each needs to bring in a 100 to 150 oz., and they have just over two months left to get it in....
I will say this, they have all together found four times the amount of gold thus far, that the Hoffman crew alone brought in last season....

yeh reality tv's funny that way. They always want you to belive one thing when in fact the total opposite will happen.
Take Survivor for example.....everytime they go to tribal council and you think player A's gettin voted out for shure... and then its player B who walks in shame.
So just casue the hoffmans look like there in last, makes me think they'll wear the golden crown come seasons end.

^ That's what creates drama if Hoffman were mining 10 oz a day and cruise to victory who is going to watch the show? If I remember correctly a cast member from last season claimed the show was scripted heavily.

Hey I watch this show! I can confirm the area they are in is real because I've been there. In one of the episodes when one of the miners are using the pay phone in dawson city, I can say with certainty, I used the exact pay phone many times to call home!
Its a really cool show and it brings back sooo many memories!

Here's the thing I'm wondering about shows like this (including Storage Wars, Pawn Stars, etc.) Regardless of whether any of what you see is real or whether it's all scripted, the fact is that it's a hit television show and all the people you see are actors on the show. Don't they all get paid for appearing on the show? Even if they only get a modest (by Hollywood standard) $10K per episode, that would be enough to keep them all going even if they never found any gold.
Does anybody know whether the stars of "reality" television shows like this do, in fact, get paid? Or are the people really just doing it for their 15 minutes of fame?

That Dorsey guy that got kicked off did an interview and said it was all scripted anyways. He said he wanted to stay on but the directors wanted them to create a fake fight and have someone kicked off. I dont know if any of it is real, Id like to think them searching for gold and paying for expenses is but the rest is made up. Like come on all the camps break down every 5 minutes? Right then and there I knew it was a crock.

Off topic but has anyone watched hardcore pawn? Now that show seems like full blown BS. I think pawn stars is the most realistic out of them all. I've had friends go to the actual shop and meet some of the guys. They arent there very often though and the show is obviously scripted but it's still fairly real

I am sure they make some money off of it but nowhere near 10k per episode, reality tv pays very little unless it is contest-based(Survivor, etc) or you also own the production and marketing rights to the show. The advantage of reality tv is that the production costs are very low when compared to your standard actor-based programs.
