Got a new 1891 S in today and am getting a little confused on the reverse. Which reverse do I have here? All photos are of the same coin. And is the darkening on the rim below the date the start of toning?

Thanks in advance, Jim

Do I have this right?

VAM 1E has reverse C3a, shortened and notched left wing. It's pretty obvious this wing is shortened and there is a clear notch.

VAM 10 has reverse C3C,with a high mm, date set further right than normal, a line at the end of the hairline near the M initial and possibly shortening of left wing

VAM 12 reverse c3d, is S/S which I believe I have here

Is this darkening on the rim below the date the start of toning?

It is a far date and looks to be a Vam-5c by mint mark but in the photos it looks to have a slanted date like the Vam-7. The eye dot is not there nor is the gouge by the L of LIBERTY. Looking over the types of mint mark over on VAM World is not always a good thing as dies fill so placement is what I have been looking at.

It could just be an EDS of the Vam-5c, the Vam-5, 5a and 5b have a a different reverse die.
