ANA ELECTION NEWS -- Show your numismatic involvement and dedication by making a difference and casting a vote. As of March 31,14 individuals had received the required number of nominations to qualify as candidates in the 2005 election of
ANA officers. All 14 have accepted their nominations. Five incumbents are vying with nine newcomers for the opportunity to serve on the Association's 9-member board. Ballots will be mailed no later than June 1 to all
ANA members with voting privileges. For the candidates' biographies and to learn about their platforms, click on
https://www.money.org for details.
NEW CLASSES -- "The Art of Money" will be offered during Session II of Summer Seminar, July 2-8, in Colorado Springs, and two exciting educational opportunities are available during the World's Fair of Money in San Francisco. Show attendees can register for the first annual Maynard Sundman/Littleton Coin Co. Lecture Series (presented on July 25) and/or the two-day "Fundamentals of Grading U.S. Coins" (July 26-27). NATIONAL COIN WEEK -- The
ANA was alive with activity on April 23 as hundreds of visitors turned out for a day of fun and education in observance of National Coin Week. Day-long educational programs, consumer awareness updates, games, quizzes and the opportunity to strike "coins" highlighted the event, which coincided with the opening of the new "Oops! Mistakes on Money" exhibit. "We have seen such increased interest develop from the U.S. Mint's 50
State Quarter Program," notes
ANA Numismatic Outreach Developer Gail Baker. Read more in the June issue of Numismatist.
>>Oops! Lots of Mistakes in New Exhibit!
More than 100 area numismatists spent the afternoon of April 15 at the
ANA Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado, appreciating money instead of lamenting its loss. The dreaded tax deadline was celebrated with the opening of the "Oops! Mistakes on Money" exhibit in the Museum's Lower Gallery. Visitors to the Museum can see more than 300 numismatic errors, including a 1955 doubled-die cent, a three-legged
Buffalo nickel, one of two known circulated Series 1950 Federal Reserve notes with serial number and seal overprinted as a Silver Certificate (valued at $350,000), and a complete set of Wisconsin
State Quarter errors. The "Oops!" exhibit runs through April 1, 2006.

Hats off to the Johnson County Numismatic Society (JCNS), whose members put a tremendous amount of heart and soul into the National Money Show held in Kansas City, Missouri, in April. Mark McWherter, the show's general chairman, credits his team of volunteers for much of the show's success. "We held 11 meetings and began 22 months out," he says. A total of 15 JCNS members headed committees, and another 35 worked on or during the event. To learn more about the club, visit
https://www.jcns.org.
