I started collecting block numbers, last summer. It is very interesting how much I have learned about the currency of our country, by doing this. It gives me a reason to look at everything that I get in change, when I use cash. I have been looking at my coinage for years, but it's like entirely another branch of our monetary system.

I also have many of the people from work who are into looking for me as well. It makes Monday a bit more bearable, to walk into work, and have the guys come up to give me their change from the bar over the weekend.

That is great you have others working for you for free.

So how many different block #s do you have?

And when collecting block #s, do you collect by different denomination, district, and series?

So far, I have 428 block numbers, out of 2783.

I am collecting each series number, per district. So for my 2009 $1, I have AA, AB, AC, BA, BB, etc.

The number of blocks is based on $1 starting in 1963, and $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 all starting in 1996, when the new bills came into circulation.

Its a fun thing for me, and if I ever get bored with it, it is all face value, so I am not out anything.

Hey, Brenpickle. It is fun and reasonably cheap, as in just face value. It has really taught me a lot about our currency.

Here is where I got most of my info from, for the blocks.

I also have a spreadsheet with all of the blocks, if you are interested. Good luck, and I am sure that you will have fun.
