That would be a nice payday even if they were just spending money. Looks like you got your own grammy award.

Great gift! What kind of $2 bills are those that you have turned face down?

as the executor to an uncle's estate, I found about $2,000 in old coins and notes. I handed them to the nominated solicitor, who then advised me to take out all of the numismatically valued items, to be sold at their true value. There were maybe $400 in crisp flat uncirculated $1 and $2 notes.

There was also around $400 in old, well circulated $1 and $2 notes. At this time, the $1 and $2 notes had been withdrawn from circulation many years previous, and completely replaced by coins.

I gave the used notes to my kids who spent them. They received a wide variety of reactions from the checkout chicks, and and whoever else who were asked to receive them as payment.

Some rejected them outright, because they were unfamiliar with them, older people kept them, because they had remembered them from many years previous, and paid out of their own pocket into the till. Surprise, with acceptance or rejection, were the usual reactions. ( with or ).

At least, the kids had an entertaining time spending their money!

Great find!

I'm in a little bit of a paper money craze myself.

The funny-back $1 looks to be the best find of the bunch.

When my Mom's cousin died we began the process of clearing her home.
At first, I found four 10 dollar gold pieces.
The woman had always said that she had gold coins.
I thought, "Oh, this is what she meant."

And then, I found a bag.
A total of 107 gold coins: fives, tens, and twenties.
I still manage them for myself and my sister.

That one dollar reverse: more details, please!
At least your grandma was alive when she gave them to you.
She must have been as happy to let you have them as you are to get them.

I believe this is one of those times that the sentimental value would greatly outweigh their intrinsic value. I wish my grandmother was still around and know if she was and if she would have given me anything there would be no way I would ever sell it. Every time you look at those notes you can think of the day you were helping her and found them, that is the stuff that makes the notes priceless in my mind

Bryan, you and I are 1000% in agreement. My grandfather started collecting coins during the Great Depression. (He was extremely fortunate and only out of work for 6 weeks, so he had $5 a week he used to buy rolls of pennies, nickels, and dimes to go through...) When I was little, I helped him with quarters, halves, and dollars, as well as keeping his smaller denomination collections going. Eventually, he got too old, and just started buying Mint Sets, and I discovered girls, cars, etc... My dad started getting into a Morgan dollar craze, and he and grandpa dabbled in some gold. I then talked dad into looking at paper money, and all of us worked on that a little here and there. The last ten years before dad died he started getting my daughter into the State Quarters, so now she's (hopefully) getting interested, but my fervent hope is just that she appreciates that she could be the 4th generation of collector in the family, and that she keeps it going and passes it onto her kids when she has them.

THAT'S cool! My Mom has prmoised me my Dad's collection but I haven't seen it yet.

I know he collected Lincoln cents, Bicentennial Washington quarters (), and I've seen a few Peace dollars and one Morgan.

Who knows what else might be there?
