Maybe someone could show me the basics and where to start, also what kind of supplies and how should I store my coins when I get them. What coins should I collect? Thanks everyone.

You are starting on the first step; Joining CCF

Second step is to buy a book before getting any coins. I would suggest the " Red Book" if you are interested in US coins.

The Red Book is always helpful for learning an approximate value. The 2013 edition is coming out April 1 (I believe).

As far as storing the coins, purchase some coin flips or safe flips. Safe flips are my favorite because it avoids staples and you get a better view of the coin.

One last little piece of advice is to keep your coins in a dry, cool place.

What kind of coins interest you?

The best way to range your coins is coin flips, with boxes and with binders and sheets of 20 pockets.

Also, do look into that Red Book by Whitman Publishing.
A real good thing to do is start monitoring all or most of the forums right here for a while. Slowly you'll see almost everything dealing with coins mentioned. Then too ask, ask, ask.

Hi hi!

My best advice, before Anything else is: Check your priorities.

Are you collecting to make a profit?
Are you collecting to have a batch of nice looking coins to give to kin?
Are you collecting to fulfill a void?
Are you collecting because coins are cool?

Honestly, the answers to those questions, imo, shape what coins you'll want to collect and what supplies you will need.

Are you collecting to make a profit?

Check the Red Book (as noted above) to find which coins are rarer/valuable. Hunt for them in coin rolls or (more easily) check for them on ebay, etc and find them at a price lower than they are worth. Seek out coins with metals such as silver/gold which have growth potential and may be worth more in a week, a month, a year, etc.

Are you collecting to have a batch of nice looking coins to give to kin?

Consider trying to find a few coins from each variety type (1 cent, 2 cent, 3 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, 50 cents, dollar). Consider grabbing some Whitman folders and trying to find/buy one from each date.

Are you collecting to fulfill a void?

Grab Whitman folders online or at a local coin shop and put coins in to fill the holes (One per date/mint location). Have a Success! moment as you fill a line, a year, and the entire book, or series. You'll feel accomplished and satisfied.

Are you collecting because coins are cool?

Go to google. Search "U.S. Coins" and select images. See which coins strike you as cool or a nice design. Find your favorites and do any of the above to seek them out and own them. I personally have always enjoyed Buffalo nickels, indian head pennies, and walking liberties. So those coins make up a significant part of my collection.

As for supplies, again, check your priorities/goals

If it's for prosperity or fun, consider a cheaper option like cardboard 2x2s and staples as well as coin holder folders. (I'd rather spend the money on more coins than expensive supplies).

If it's for profit then it's worth investing in the more expensive coin safe single holders, etc.

Hope this helps out!

You need to figure out what you LIKE as far as coins. Also, what you can afford and set a budget just for the hobby. Then before you buy even the first coin, read, read and read ALL you can about the coin and how to grade.
